When Social Theory Meets Media Theory

I just finished reading the first 19 pages of Couldry and Hepp's The Mediated Construction of Reality. My head spins reflecting on the initial insight I got. The authors argue that existing social theories are insufficient to explain reality and require a transformation due to the influence of media theory. I never thought that with the popularity of the term "social media," a tension exists between these two important terms.
