LOH Contest #293 - The Celebrant and The Celebrator
Greetings to you all, how is your week going so far? it's a privilege to take part in this week's ladies of hive contest. So without much pep talks, let's dive into the main business.
Do you like celebrating your own birthday? Or are you more of a celebrator of other people's birthdays? What would you like to do for your next birthday?
For the record, I grew up in a home with two different views about birthdays. My dad wasn't the type who was interested in celebrating birthdays especially his own but my mom on the other hand was quite the opposite, she would even start from the beginning of the month to announce at home that her birthday is coming up and all the things she wanted so everyone could start making plans towards it. And the fun fact is that my mom and my sister were both born on the same month and same day, so during their birthday, the celebration is doubled. It was never anything loud, just a little happy family making the day feel more special for the celebrants, with wine, drinks, delicious delicacies, gifts and sometimes a cake too. The pattern was maintained and sustained in our home that everyone of us were celebrated that way, from my mom to my sister, to me, to my brothers and to my dad. This continued till we grew older and some of my siblings weren't staying with us any longer but the culture was still maintained for those still with the family and calls were put across to those who were far away.
In my home, birthday celebrations were a deal, my mom made it a deal so we grew up that way. So yes to me birthday is a big deal, it's not about the loud celebration with loud music or going out clubbing and doing all the shenanigans, it's just about being able to look back at my life and be grateful for growth and little progresses I've made so far, it's about my family, friends and loved ones remembering my special day and sending in their prayers, via texts, chats, calls and wishing me well. It's not even about the gifts but if accompanied with gifts, I always cherish them because I know what it means to think of someone and gift them something.
I know what it means to remember people's birthday and think of them in the little way I can, I know what it means to pour my heart into writing to people on their birthday and reminding them how special they are to the world at large and how fortunate the world is to have another being like them. I know what it means to plan towards people's birthday and get them something if I could. I do not forget dates easily, and if I could I write them down especially if these people are my closest pals, buddies and companions etc.

So yes! I am both a celebrator and I love to celebrate my birthday too. Over the years I've always been excited and expectant of my birthdays except for two years in particular that I wasn't really excited and expectant about it and I really didn't know why, I just had that weird feeling that was so unusual of me but those years still turned out to be one of my most memorable birthdays. But for the first time in my life, I thought of doing something for my next birthday, but no, not to myself but to other people. I've always seen myself praying and hoping God blesses me the way I want him to bless me so I could be a blessing to others and lend a hand where and when I could. I'm thinking of doing something for a set of people I know on my birthday and if God surprises me before my next birthday, I will execute that plan on or before my birthday in celebration for my next birthday and I hope he helps me execute that plan. I am sorry that I can't reveal that plan since it is not about myself but doing it to others, more like charity, so I hope this is fine.
