My 5-Year Investment Story on Hive
Last night, I wrote down in my record book that today I have to write an article about my five-year journey of investing in Hive.
Initial Investments
I bought the Summoner's Spellbook last August 2021. I paid 500.00 php. Three months later, I bought three more for my family's accounts. Initially, I didn't expect that by buying the spellbook, I also created a Hive account. So far, I have invested 2,000.00 php.
It took me seven months before I realized the meaning of tokenized decentralized social media. Since then, I started saving and buying HIVE. The first time I bought HIVE was in March 2022. I spent 5,000.00 php. So far, after seven months, my total investment was 7,000.00 php.
It was also that during that time, the POLYCUB/CUB and LISTNERDS became hot topics here on HIVE. I invested 4,400.00 php in POLYCUB/CUB and 2,750.00 in LISTNERDS. I got burned, but I blamed no one.
Moreover, I also bought cards and LEO. On my record, I bought LEO three times: 2,200 php in December 2022, 500.00 php in January 2023, and another 500.00 php in April 2023.
As for Splinterland cards, I spent 492.25 php for Chaos Dragon, 221.65 php for Zyvax Vuul, 374.00 php for Mitica Headhunter, and 3,000.00 for Quix the Devious.
I also bought CENT once in April 2022. That was during my initial entry in the Cent community. I spent 2,750.00 php. Since then, HIVE has been the focus of my regular purchases. So far, my total investment was 24,187.90 php.

As much as possible, I set aside a portion of my salary to buy HIVE twice a month.

I failed to record the amount in HIVE. That was a mistake on my part. I could have benefitted by comparing the quantity of HIVE I bought as the price declined during the past four years.

I observe that from September 2023 until May 2024, my savings for HIVE got strengthened. I don't know the reason why after the end of August 2024, my saving discipline started to dwindle. Nevertheless, it is encouraging to see that my investment as of last year was bigger than that of 2023.

The primary reason for the decline in my HIVE savings for this year was because of Pi Network. Since I invested 10,000.00 php from the total mining rewards I received from Pi beginning February 28, I was distracted from my focus.

The current estimated value of my account is $1,194.66. In Philippine pesos, that is equivalent to 70,534.00. My total loss after five years is 83,033.90, or 54.06%. I lost bigger than this in 2015 in the Philippine Stock Exchange. In just one year, I lost 98,000.00, or 49% of my total capital.
However, there is a big difference between these two experiences. In the stock market, I was a short-term trader. On Hive, I am a long-term investor. And besides, such a loss is not so huge, considering the fact that the value of our Splinterlands' accounts and Hive Engine tokens are not included. If the Hive Portfolio website is accurate, the total value of our Hive Engine tokens is $972.00 or 57,387.90 php. Deduct that amount from 83,033.90; the loss is now reduced to 25,646.00 php.
What I am uncertain about is the value of our Splinterlands NFTs. Imagine the total value is $44,951.00. That's 2,653,956 in Philippine pesos. Considering such a huge amount, the loss will be wiped out. The only question is how to liquidate these digital assets.
Conclusion
From a simple ₱500 spellbook purchase in 2021, I was able to grow my Hive account as I saw the potential of tokenized social media. This made me decide to set aside a portion of my income for saving in digital assets such as HIVE, Hive Engine tokens, and NFTs. After five years, despite the decline in the price of HIVE, I have no regret in making such a decision. God willing, we will see seven years from now if such a decision is an outcome of good judgment or foolishness.

It depends on two things: my time frame and the HIVE price.
On splinterlands I'm on a very big loss, I just sold the packs I held and took the red, not investing anymore there with old assets losing value over time
In my case, I sold duplicate cards and those cards with less battle utility. I am still keeping cards for battle. The most recent card I bought was a legendary card, Robo-Dragon Knight. I am willing to wait.
