Brighton Bloom

LORE

Brighton was an eccentric young man of Shimmer City, the capital of Khymeria. He was always seen as a strange character among the Khymian summoners. In the best times, his peers thought he was simply a distraction from their important studies. In the worst times, his fellow summoners doubted and belittled Brightonโ€™s abilities. They were also put off by the way birds always landed on his hands and shoulders. After just two years studying at the Shimmer summoning school, Brighton decided to leave Khymeria. His loyalty was available to the highest bidder, and that is where the Dragons came in.
The Gloridax cared not for Brightonโ€™s strange idiosyncrasies; what mattered to them was his skills as a summoner. Furthermore, in Gloridax eyes oneness with birds has long been considered a sign of divinity. Brightonโ€™s attraction to birds was quickly noticed by Suam Khepri, Empress of the United Gloridax, who assigned a team of aerial sorcerers to properly train the young man. When Brighton emerged from that training, he could grant the power of flight to any monster under his summoning control.

The Strategy

I've recently wrote about Brighton Bloom in this post: he's almost a FOOLPROOF way to win matches with "Earthquake" ruleset! He gives all your monsters the Flying ability, bypassing the whole ruleset mechanic: while the enemy monsters will receive 2 Damage per Round, your team will be safe and intact!

That's a cool gimmick, sure. A very cool trick that will bring you a lot of easy wins.

But Brighton Bloom is more than just that!

Flying is a very strong ability, increasing the chance of evading Melee/Ranged attacks in 25%. This means that, if you're fighting against a melee-heavy deck (Fire Splinter) or a ranged-heavy deck (Life Splinter), you'll have a huge advantage, as you will be evading 1/4 of the incoming attacks!

I like to play Brighton Bloom together with Djinn Chwala!

Djinn Chwala is a great Tank, especially on the lower leagues of Bronze and Silver. Besides having VERY high stats right at Level 1 (2 Melee, 2 Speed, 5 Armor and 9 Health), she also has my favourite ability: Thorns! When she's hit by a Melee attack, she will do 2 damage back to the attacker.

For the last few months, the Meta of the Bronze/Silver ranks has been Magic-heavy, with both Alric Stormbringer + Venari Wavesmith (before Chaos) and Obsidian (after Chaos). And, against Magic-heavy decks, this strategy is NOT good, and you'll need to find better cards to counter them.

But there are LOTS of players still playing Melee-heavy decks, either to complete their Daily Quest or because they prefer their Melee Monsters. Either way, you'll beat these players in no time!

The strategy is quite simple: Brighton Bloom makes your tank, Djinn Chwala, 25% harder to hit. If the enemy miss his attack against you, you're winning. If the enemy hits you, you're winning too, as Thorns will deal 2 damage to the opponent's monster. Win-Win Situation!

Let's see this strategy in action!

The Battle

Link to the Battle

This was a fairly common match without any crazy rules. The only special ruleset was "Back to Basics", meaning that all Monsters lost their abilities.

That's a very interesting ruleset for Brighton Bloom: ALL Monsters in the game lose their own abilities, but your own Monsters all have Flying: if any enemy Monster had Flying in the first place (negating the +25% evading), now they don't have due "Back to Basics".

Let's analyze my team composition:

  • The frontline tank is Djinn Chwala: even without her Thorn ability, she's still a incredibly strong tank due her high stats (5 Armour and 9 Health). This means that she's a great tank to be played on "Back to Basics" matches.

  • My 3rd and 4th Monsters were two Ranged damage dealers: Soul Strangler and Dark Astronomer. I played the cheapest (mana-wise) Ranged Monsters with 2 Damage, as my idea was hitting the enemy hard and fast.

  • My 2nd Monster is Creeping Ooze, the great 1-Mana utility Monster that slow down the whole enemy team. This combos very well with the Flying ability, increasing even more the chance of enemies missing their attacks!

The battle was a Success!

Djinn Chwala had 5 extra Armour when compared to the enemy tank (Cursed Windeku); and, due the Flying ability, the first TWO attacks dealt by my opponent missed.

This meant that his tank died way before than mine. After that, their team lost the ability to deal damage, and quickly died one after the other.

Have in mind that half our team was the same (we both played Soul Strangler and Dark Astronomer), but the results of the match was huge in my favour. This means that the rest of my team (with Chwala + Brighton Bloom) was WAY better than his.

Conclusion

Brighton Bloom is a GREAT investment as a new player: you'll just rolfstomp on Earthquake matches, and it's an overall strong Summoner to play on non-Earthquake matches.

Djinn Chwala is also a very efficient card to purchase as a newbie, because the card is very inexpensive and it's one of the strongest tanks that you'll have at Level 1: high Health, high Armour, and her Thorns ability.

In fact, these 2 cards are very often recommended to new players as they're both cheap and strong to play. I hope that this Battle Report helped you to do understand WHY these cards are recommended, seeing both their strenghts and weaknesses!

Completely agree Bringhton Bloom and Gjinn Chwala are very useful cards in battle and the thorns ability is very useful if the opponent uses many cards with melee attack.

It's unfortunate that, at least in the lower leagues where I am, the Magic Meta is always overtuned and too strong; it gets tiring to always encounter Alric + Venari Wavesmith (before Chaos) and, now, Obsidian + random forest magic monsters, and always having to counter Magic to begin with.

But Brighton Bloom + Djinn Chwala are 2 cards that I still use a lot of the time :D

Thx for your support <3
