When you're walking on a Wednesday and come across a gem

Spring. My favorite season.
We came out of winter (it's true, this winter wasn't cold at all 🙂) and entered the period of warm daily temperatures (although these days the temperatures are almost summer 🙂).
The day lengthened, the sun set later on the horizon. It gives me the will to live after a full day of work activities during the week.

So also this Wednesday.
I finished work and headed home while the sun was high in the sky.

In a little while, I will be able to go directly to a beach from work (for now, it's not yet time for something like that, the day isn't too long for me to succeed in that).

The agreement was to continue straight from work to the city center, stop at one of the Street pasta bar and after lunch, walk around the central pedestrian area.

Pasta with gorgonzola and smoked chicken, a hit.

The pedestrian area is full of people, which is a sure sign of good weather to come.
Always when the first nice warm days come, after winter, literally everything "explodes".

The streets are filled with pedestrians, parks and gardens with the colors of various flowers.

It was as if everything was suddenly awakened from winter sleep.
An indispensable location for a walk, when we are in the city center, is the fortress.

We go out to the terrace of the fortress, which offers a beautiful view.

We are on a plateau, where you can almost always see a photo display (this time it is about the assassination in Sarajevo in 1914, which was the reason for the start of World War I).

On the same plateau, there are also benches and tables with chess fields, where our seniors or some younger ones try out their chess skills, while the music played by street musicians comes from the background.

Passing through that part of the fortress, we come across a fountain, sculptures, some trees protected by law, as well as a famous monument of gratitude to France for help in World War I (the monument was made by the famous sculptor Ivan Meštrovic, and was erected in November 1930).

For the first time in my life, I stopped and looked at this fountain in detail.

This fountain is the gem of my #WednesdayWalk

The central part of the fountain, the sculpture "Fisherman" or "Fight", is the work of sculptor Simeon Roksandić, from the beginning of the 20th century.

The sculpture is a depiction of the fight between a man and a snake and was presented to the public at the 77th International Art Exhibition in Rome in 1907. After Rome, it was exhibited in London, at the Balkan exhibition of the same year.
One interesting thing about this sculpture.
During the ship's journey to England, news arrives that the ship carrying exhibits for the exhibition has sunk and the artist in the studio, from the print he made while making the statue, casts a new one.
As it was fake news, after returning the original home, the original goes to Belgrade, and the duplicate to Zagreb.

We enjoy a pleasant walk while the sun slowly sets behind the horizon and illuminates the building of the military museum with its last rays.

From Kalemegdan, we move slowly towards the pedestrian zone where, like us, many couples are walking in each other's arms 🙂

I enjoyed this #wednesdaywalk. I hope it was interesting for you to see some of the symbols of my city and the famous Belgrade fortress.

Thank you for stopping by my post and I hope you enjoyed the photos and the story I shared with you

As the flowers bloom in spring, in the same way, the streets bloom - they fill with many people :))
