Chelsea Specials - Gallagher stunned at being Captain at Bournemouth

The blood running through Conor Gallagher with high pulses when he was given captain armband against Bournemouth. He was raised by a devoted Blues fan and began practising with the team at the age of six. He progressed through the youth ranks to earn a spot in the senior squad. Gallagher travelled through many professional milestones. The most recent was leading the team he had always wanted to play for as a child. First, in the Carabao Cup triumph over Wimbledon, and then again last Sunday in the Premier League at Bournemouth, though he admits the latter incident caught him off guard. I was unaware that I was captain against Bournemouth, Gallagher admitted. If I'm being completely honest, I didn't believe I would be.

However, the armband was there when I picked up my equipment to organise it before I put it on. I discovered this information when I asked the kitman, "Is this mine?" He said, "Yeah." It's incredibly great to have led the team as captain on a handful of occasions. My parents are also quite proud. They missed my message because there was no phone service in the changing area. They simply saw me on the pitch wearing the wristband, but in any case, I believe that was a nicer surprise. The determined midfielder won't be taking it easy following his most recent success, either. Like every action Gallagher has made, he wants more and isn't content with what he has. He has the future clearly in mind.

All I wanted was to play for Chelsea, which I did. Like everyone else in life, I then set new goals for myself. After I made my Chelsea debut, my goal was to play as many games as I could before starting to score more goals, pick up more assists, and generally help the team. I'm proud of what has occurred thus far, and I'm sure there will be a lot more. I served as captain for the Under-18s a few years ago, so I have a hazy understanding of what it entails. I'm incredibly appreciative of everything the Academy has done for me over the years. Without it, I'm positive I wouldn't be here.

That demonstrates the gaffer's current confidence in me. He has always been quite honest and open with the players when I first met him, and I believe many of the guys will agree. We've had some enjoyable conversations. I feel he recognises my abilities on the field and has faith in me. I'm really appreciative of it, and I hope I can keep assisting him and the team in achieving greater outcomes and developing as a unit. While Gallagher's journey to Bournemouth marked his first time leading Chelsea in the Premier League, the 23-year-old also had personal significance in being selected as captain for the League Cup match against Wimbledon at Stamford Bridge at the end of August.

I actually forgot that Johnnie Jackson was the Wimbledon head coach until I saw him at the Wimbledon game. He was my former Charlton assistant manager from my first loan transfer, which was four years ago. The fact that I ran into him was a pleasant surprise for both of us, and it just went to show how far I've come from that time when I was a 19-year-old youngster at Charlton to now, when I'm back at Chelsea and can captain the club. It was just a really beautiful moment, and seeing him was wonderful. Life is really beautiful at the moment and I am enjoying my football under the new gaffer Pochetino and my responsibility has been to play more and more to reach greater milestones like Lampard and other legends.
