CFC Specials - Paul Merson: Chelsea look predictable in front of goal
Chelsea team play this season has been very predictable and that is something Pochetino need to work on if they want to win in the coming features. Prior to Nottingham Forest's visit to Stamford Bridge, Mauricio Pochettino said he is "pleased with the progress" his new team is making in Chelsea's matchday plan. Following a sluggish start to his reign, victories over AFC Wimbledon and Luton in quick succession cheered up west London. Although neither of those two outcomes were particularly encouraging, there were a few encouraging hints in each game that gave Pochettino hope for Chelsea's future. This is why the former Tottenham manager will be devastated by Saturday's shocking home loss to Forest. It is a big hiccup in the travel process.

Chelsea are obviously still a work in progress. As he tries to leave his mark on a new group consisting of young players, Pochettino's mission will take time. The starting lineup for the Blues versus Forest had an average age of 24.5, and no one is more adept at developing young talent than the 51-year-old.

Pochettino will be confident in his ability to bring his appealing brand of football to Chelsea and discover a winning formula, but he won't be naive. He will be aware that Todd Boehly and the rest of the club administration would want to see noticeable changes as quickly as possible after spending a record £434.5 million in the summer transfer window.

Since Nottingham Forest's promotion back to the Premier League, Brennan Johnson has undoubtedly been their most crucial player. Although the loss of his departure on Deadline Day was significant, Steve Cooper's team currently appears to be more formidable than it did before the 22-year-old joined Tottenham. The fact that none of the seven players Forest acquired on the final day of the transfer window were included in Cooper's starting lineup as they shocked Chelsea at Stamford Bridge made Saturday's outcome all the more remarkable.

Nuno Tavares was the only player who might have made his debut in west London. Even though Andrew Omobamidele, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Ibrahim Sangare, and Divock Origi have yet to join the team, Forest already appears to be much more prepared for the demands of the Premier League than they were when they were first promoted to the top division last year. Johnson was a valued asset, but Cooper will still be happy with his summertime business. At the final siren, he was serenaded by the visiting fans for orchestrating Forest's first victory at Chelsea in more than 28 years. After suffering close losses at Arsenal and Manchester United, the Welshman deserved this victory, and he now has the groundwork to continue after the break.
