PHPC: The New Stablecoin Revolutionizing Online Transactions in the Philippines
Two articles refer to a new stablecoin launched, which I think by one of the main crypto exchanges in the Philippines. The name of this stablecoin is PHPC. The issuer of this is coins.ph under the regulation of the Central Bank of the Philippines.
The stablecoin is based on the value of the Philippine peso. That means, each PHPC is worth 1 Philippine Peso or 1 PHP.
This stablecoin aims to improve the efficiency and stability of online transactions which is the weakness of both fiat money and cryptocurrency respectively.
coins.ph would like to inform the public that PHPC's use cases include "domestic and cross-border payments," trading, and payment for products sold online.
The fiat currency is known for its slowness and high service fees. Through PHPC, these obstacles can be overcome especially when it comes to remittances and online business transactions. PHPC will use blockchain technology so that the public can see that any transaction is transparent and traceable. Additionally, because PHPC's value is pegged to PHP, it also avoids the unexpected sudden fluctuation in value commonly seen in most cryptocurrencies.
To dispel doubts in the minds of online users, coins.ph guarantees the integrity and security of PHPC by stating that it has 100% collateral based on cash, time deposits, and “short-term money market instruments.” In addition to this, PHPC stands on Polygon blockchain technology which occupies the twentieth place in the list of cryptocurrencies with high market capitalization reaching 4.9 billion USD. This blockchain is also known to use a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocol like Hive. Moreover, transactions using the Polygon blockchain are fast and have minimal fees.
Besides Polygon, according to this article, PHPC will also use the Ronin blockchain. This is the blockchain that became popular in the Philippines during the pandemic because many Filipinos confirmed that Axie Infinity helped them financially during the time of crisis. Both coins.ph and Ronin are united in the vision that Filipinos can use cryptocurrency in their daily transactions.
