A Job without a Job Description

Compared to my work as a missionary in South Korea for four years, my current job here at school is more difficult. Not only because the salary is low, but also because the tasks seem to multiply as months pass. I accepted this job without a formal contract and perhaps I am the one to blame for what's happening to me. Yes, there is a job description but it appears that it is not part of the culture here to follow standard procedures. Yes, I am grateful to have this job for it is not easy for a man over 50s to find a job like this. However, if I will continue to keep silent, I think this practice will continue. Hoping that it will change might be an aspiration that will never come true.

After working for almost 8 years, I observe that more tasks and responsibilities are given to those who produce much of the output. That is good somehow. However, there are limitations to this kind of company culture. We can only do so much. We do not have enough time to multitask. As they say, as you spread yourself too thin, you are exhausting yourself and opening yourself to unwanted stress. This school was not like this when I first worked here in 2006. After leaving the school for 4 years, the culture changed. Or perhaps, at that time, my stay was too short and my position was not at the top level and that's why I could not see this problem.

If my financial standing is sound, I would have tendered my resignation. Yes, I like to support the ideas and activities initiated by the head of the school. However, the burdens on my shoulders seem to keep increasing. From academics to finance, to human resource and technical and vocational training, and just recently, scholarship.

My other option is either to request an administrative meeting or talk directly to the president and voice out my concerns. If you were in my position, what would you do?

Pardon me for blogging this. There is no one I can talk to about these issues and writing it is a way to relieve my stress; it's a therapy for me. And besides, I doubt if there is anyone in our school who will read this post. None of them I know is into Web3 right now; perhaps after several years. When that time comes, this post will be buried into the chain.
