The Dark Side of Hive

In the world of cryptocurrency, two terms is synonymous with power and influence: whales and minnows. These terms refer to individuals or entities that hold significant amounts of cryptocurrency, and their actions can have a profound impact on market dynamics or the ecosystem, many of them are found on hive in distribution of curation and governance of the hive blockchain. The whales are individually which huge staked hive power while the minnows are those with small stake.

Hive blockchain was known as a decentralized, community-driven platform where users can share content, engage with others, and earn rewards giving ones inner voice a chance to be experienced by others while getting rewarded for doing that. However, beneath the surface lies a more sinister reality as hive is as verse like the ocean with do many different strata . In this post, we'll expose the abuse of Hive bloggers and its devastating impact on the community.

Abuse of on authors and users can take many forms, including:

  1. Downvoting and Censorship: Malicious actors may downvote bloggers' content to suppress their voices and limit their earning potential.
  2. Harassment and Intimidation: Abusers may use comments, messages, or other means to harass and intimidate bloggers.
  3. Plagiarism and Content Theft: Malicious actors may steal bloggers' content and pass it off as their own.
  4. Vote Manipulation: Abusers may use their influence to artificially inflate or deflate a blogger's reputation.

The abuse of Hive bloggers can have severe consequences, including Emotional Distress which can cause significant emotional distress, leading to burnout and decreased motivation in content creation. As most times the downvote affects ones reputation which leads to Loss of Reputation, Malicious actors may damage a blogger's reputation, making it harder for them to attract readers and earn rewards, resulting to Financial Losses as that's the essence of down voting resulting in financial losses, as bloggers will lose rewards, sponsorships, or other income opportunities.

Some of my recommended Solutions and Recommendations to mitigate this abuse are

  1. Improved Moderation: Establish a more robust moderation system to detect and prevent abuse.
  2. Community-Led Governance: Foster a community-led governance structure to hold abusers accountable and ensure that the platform is governed in a fair and decentralized manner.
  3. Support for Victims: Provide support and resources for victims of abuse, including counseling, reputation repair, and financial assistance.

The abuse of Hive users especially minnows is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention. By understanding the types of abuse, real-world examples, and impact on bloggers, we can work towards creating a safer, more supportive community.

Let's work together to create a safer, more supportive Hive for all

Many times, accounts will down vote plagiarists and abusers to keep them away from the reward pool until they are able to behave in a way that benefits the ecosystem.

Look at these accounts for example:

@mujaffa103 (and all its copies)
@gaapx07526604
@leo165
@hyhy448 (and all its copies)

Are examples of abusers

It's in the best interest of any stakeholder to look after their investment, whether large, medium or small.
