PAST VS PRESENT

The importance of education is something that is widely and perfectly understood within Nigerian parents. Every parents are willing to sale their belongings just to see those child attend school. Some who have nothing to sale, goes to their relatives for help.

School being the secondary agent of socialization has proven to have both positive and negative effects on the child.

Being a student was the best thing that ever happened to me throughout my life time but during my jss1 to jss3, I hated coming to school because of how strict the rules were.

Comparing the school ok now to the school of then, I will say that these days, schools are more lenient and they take many craps from students.

The one thing that changed a lot are the rules.

Before, the rules were so strict and backed up with severe purnishment for offenders. The teachers are not you friends and they will stop at nothing to spoil their rods and save the student.

One private school I attended in sabon Tasha kaduna, Nigeria named Graceland international school, was very strict.
A student may be flogged 20 to 50 Strokes of the cane at the back because of lateness..
I can remember that time clearly,my elder brother use to collect my own round of lashes.

This made me hated school during my secondary school days.

Comparing this to now, things have become very much soft and students have taken over the disciplinary duty of the staffs.

I visited a secondary school last year but what I saw was really bad.

The students were behaving like they were no laws guiding them, the principal and vice were not feared unlike before, when we see or hear the voice of a teacher, we will run back to the class amd look for something to start reading.

The orderliness in the school of nowadays is really low. Compared to before, there was orderliness and everything was better.

The bad thing about being a student back then was the fact that there was no mercy wile carryout a purnishment, instead, the more the student begs, the more the duration of the purnishment increases.

There was a time I claimed to be sick for a long time just to avoid school.

The one thing I think an be done in other to make things go back to normal is to limit the power given to students over their fellow students in the name of senior perfect.

Don't get me wrong, I was a senior perfect during my time. I had access to literally everything. I was the one holding the key to the staff room and I had access to the practical room at will.

I could purnish a student in any way I could, making my ego to be inflated. Power is very sweet but when in the wrong hands (in the hands of a student), it can be very disastrous.

When the power given to the ss3 students over the remaining students is limited, things will go back to normal and everyone will know their place.

How can a student be flogged 20 to 50 strokes of canes, that is wickedness without knowing the reason why he or she was late to school, some children trek miles before they can get to school. No one can try that again now

My school don't want to know the reason.

They will always brng up how they wake up by 5am just to start trekking to school

The Nigerian society is just trying to imbibe the good culture of the Europeans who don't for any reason use cane on children. However, we have not arrived at that maturity of the mind. But I feel it's a good thing, but more need to be done following the new rules. The kids nerd appropriate sensitization.

You are right. Orderliness isn't maintained this era. In the past, students feared the principals and teachers but today, even students jokes with principals and it has become something that needs to be looked into. Students now become unserious with their studies and do not bother about passing out with flying colors. Schools should do the needful before things gets deteriorated that it would be tough on the next generation.

Honestly.

They make fun of the principals shoe even to his/her face. Sadly this has been passed to the junior ones and it is now a norm to disrespect a teacher.

A lot has changed over the years. Punctuality is one of the things that are not even taken seriously anymore. Even some parents bring their children to school when first period is already over, and they do this every day.

Even school authorities are extra careful when metting out discipline. Times have changed.
