EFFECTS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE ON A ROLE MODEL

Drug abuse, also called substance abuse, is an act that can make people miserable, and turn them into beings with low mental fortitude.

No matter how it is being taken, in moderate amounts or in plenty amounts, it has a way of making a person useless to the society in the nearest future.

Drugs can be sweet, it can make a person feel like they are in heaven on earth. Dimensional therapy, as i call it, can give the best feeling of relief and security that you can think of.

I have lived with people who are drug addicts. I have also lived with people who are becoming drug addicts and those who just started drugs. Also, i have tasted it, and one thing i realize is that, this type of life is not for me.

Living with a drug addict can be really annoying if you care for that person. It always seems like all your pleas for the person to refrain from drugs, will always fall on deaf ears.

When i came to the east newly, I lived close to a friend who was a chronic drug addict. A promising young man with lots of potentials and a good future. He is really smart, at times, he lectures me on some things that i do not understand. I see him as family because of how close we are. I always look up to him.

He takes alcohol once in a blue moon, and he never smokes, always scared of taking medications - oral and injections. When i see him, i see a role model and a mentor because it seemed to me like he has his life planned out and he is gradually pulling the strings to get to his destination.

Not only me, but many people in the society viewed him as a promising young man. Always respected anywhere he goes to.

Things began to gradually change when he lost his job, and his wife left him. He was falsely accused of something that he did not do.

Gradually, he began to bask himself in alcohol. He was slowly drifting away from reality, without heeding to the advice of his people. Depression kicked in and his friends cycle changed.

Once a person who was scared of needles, he began to do drugs, injecting himself with harmful substances, all in the name of being high and forgetting his sorrows.

Time passed and it was very obvious that flesh has left his bones, as his cheek bones and clavicle were in full display like a dinosaurs bone being displayed in the museum.

I could not do anything about it. He became aggressive and began to endulge in stealing just to get some money for drugs and alcohol. It pained me to see that a person that was once praised by the people, is now being hated.

One day, i heard from some people that he was almost burnt alive by the neighboring community because he stole from them. Thankfully, somebody intervened and he was spared.

He became a nuisance to the community, always disturbing the peace of the community by either stealing or hurting the people.

I dont know what happened to him afterwards because i travelled but i think he is better now.
