Hello everyone!

These are some photos of my visit to the National Museum (Museu Nacional), in Rio de Janeiro, a few days before the a huge fire destroyed the entire collection and the whole building on September 2, 2018.

I still can't believe that the whole collection was destroyed due the negligence of our rulers, that left the Museum abandoned without funds for its maintenance.

The mummy in the photo was a priestess called "Princess of the Sun", and was one of the only mummies in the world whose fingers were individually bandaged: only 9 mummies were found this way, all of them women and all of them buried in the same place.

Bom dia, galera!

Essas são algumas fotos de minha visita ao Museu Nacional da UFRJ, no Rio de Janeiro, alguns dias antes do grande incêndio que destruiu todo o acervo e o prédio em 02 de Setembro de 2018.

Até hoje não consigo acreditar que toda a belíssima coleção foi destruída por conta do descaso de nossos governantes, que deixaram o Museu abandonado sem o mínimo de verbas para sua manutenção.

A Múmia era de uma sacerdotiza chamada de "Princesa do Sol", e era uma das únicas múmias do mundo cujos dedos foram enfaixados individualmente: apenas 9 múmias foram encontradas dessa forma, todas de mulheres e todas sepultadas no mesmo local.

Thanks for the support, I'm glad that you enjoyed the pictures! It's a shame that the Museum can't be visited anymore :( My fiancée was doing her Master's there when the fire happened, it was devastating for her...

It's in Brazil, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was a 200-years building built back in the days of Royalty, and unfortunately nothing's left :(

I feel government should pay more attention to our national heritage and tourism. It does not only serve as a history book for our children to come but also a source of income through which would general build the countries GDP
