Embarking on the Journey of Learning to Code

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I've wanted to learn how to code. See, I have a good job with a good age, but I'm stuck on it forever as it's a public job with no real growth. In today's world, I wanted to see if I'm able to learn something that's actually in high-demand: being a programer.

As a total beginner, I've looked around and found out that the best free option is The Odin Project. One of the standout features of The Odin Project is its project-based curriculum. Instead of focusing solely on theoretical concepts, the platform encourages hands-on learning by immersing me, the student, in building real-world applications from the start. By working on tangible projects, you gain practical experience and reinforce your understanding of coding principles. Also, you start building your own GitHub portfolio to be able to find real-world jobs later in the future!

They have a very comprehensive curriculum that covers everything from the REALLY basics (like "What a Web Browser is" and "How to Run Linux on your PC" which I'm ashamed to admit that I had never had the courage to install on my computer before, but now I have a fully working Virtual Machine with Ubuntu 😍), to simple languages like HTML and CSS. They also have two dedicated courses to more advanced: one to JavaScript and another to Ruby on Rails (I'll probably chose the JavaScript path, as RoR is kinda old). Each lesson is thoughtfully structured, offering step-by-step guidance and providing opportunities for experimentation and exploration. They also have a really nice, supportive community can make all the difference, form an official Discord channel to forums, one find lots of opportunities to connect with fellow learners, seek guidance, and collaborate on projects.

Embarking on the journey of learning to code with The Odin Project can be a transformative experience for me. Or not! To be honest, I'm still not sure if I'll actually be able to progress on this, as I have the problem of starting stuff and later quitting them, losing focus. But at least I'm starting; if I end up later quitting, well, so be it, but at least I tried and realized that coding is not for me...

Thanks for reading this post, and until next time!

Unless stated otherwise, all images are created and owned by me. Also, believe it or not, I'm not actually a squirrel! This handsome rodent in my profile picture is a character from 'Conker: Live & Reloaded'. Here's Real Life me!
