What is the Patriotic Stance in Ukraine Crisis?

(Edited)

The third article about the Russia-Ukraine war I would like to comment on is the piece written by Alice Salles last March 14, 2022. She argues that Americans should consider it patriotic to oppose the interventionist narrative. Not only that, she considers such a stance as a sound foreign policy.

To successfully oppose an interventionist foreign policy, Americans should learn to think critically about the dominant rhetoric used to justify intervention. Such critical analysis isn't easy particularly when the language of democracy and freedom is used as a cover-up for intervention. Mainstream media plays a significant role in selling to the public a simplistic rhetoric like this.

I agree with Salles that crises, including war, serve to increase government power and stifle dissent. Instead of following the herd, the American public should be vigilant against the allure of war as a means to settle international conflict. Though Salles' proposal seems wishful thinking, a return to grassroots antiwar activism grounded in local communities must be recovered.
