DasPres and World Peace
For the first time, I attended the public worship service of Dasmariñas Presbyterian Church (DasPres). The church planter was my former professor. He is now 72 years old, but he is more energetic than me. Watching his life reminds me of Isaiah 40 verses 28-31 where the prophet declares that people soaring like eagles have received strength from God. This strength is something supernatural for it is above or beyond the natural strength. It is contrasted to the strength of young men. Young men no matter how strong falter and get tired. However, the kind of strength that I can see in this old pastor is a strength that surpasses the strength of a middle-aged man like me.
While listening to his preaching about Jesus' question of Peter's love for him, I was taking down notes. One of these notes that comes to mind is to write about world peace. This reminds me of the situation in Ukraine. HiveBuzz has been monitoring the situation there since the war started. The war in Ukraine has been raging for 773 days now and we don't see any hope that it will soon be resolved peacefully.
Thinking to write about a peace article, I naturally rely on mises.org as my reference. The first article that caught my attention was by Edward W. Fuller published almost two years ago.
Fuller's article argues that government intervention in the free-market economy is the root cause of modern wars. The current conflict in Ukraine is seen as stemming from protectionist policies post-World War I, leading to a century of war and eventually the collapse of the USSR. The solution proposed is a genuine commitment to the free-market economy, asserting it as the only path to lasting peace.
