Weekend story: Winter is coming
Days back, there were alternating sun and clouds(rain), but the temperature was between 15°C and 25°C.
For this reason, it did not occur to me to replace the tires, i.e. to install winter tires instead of summer ones... The law requires that, when there is snow on the road, you must have winter tires...
What kind of snow at +20°C?
Yesterday I mentioned in the comments that today I have a plan to go to the cottage, where I have to prepare for the winter (preparing wood for the winter, draining the water from the installations and the boiler) but it turned out that this morning, when I got up (before dawn at 6.15 h), saw on the weather forecast that the temperature was close to 0°C and that the roads were wet and slippery.
And I still have summer tires on my car. It's not worth it, I shouldn't have started the journey...
Man plans and God laughs
I had to change my plan and I replaced one activity I don't like doing with another one I hate doing - changing tires.
I don't hate that job, changing tires, per se, even though I find the activity tiring and difficult. I keep the tires in the basement, so I need to take them out of the basement, put them in the car, take them to the place of replacement, and after the replacement, put the second set back in the car, then take them to the basement and pack them where they will winter, until spring, when the action is repeated.
I hate swapping summer tires for winter tires. The reason...
Winter is starting, which I don't like.
When the time comes to mount a set of summer tires, I look forward to it, because spring and summer are ahead of me.
I can change the tires at any time, but because of my commitments on weekdays, I always do it on weekends, just like today...
I took the winter tires out of the basement, checked their condition, drove to the place where I change them (at a friend's garage), prepared the tools and got to work.
As I changed my car in June, this is the first time I have changed these sets, summer/winter and due to the size and weight of the wheels, 18", I seriously thought about renting a tire store from a vulcanizer...
I had a car with much smaller ones before (and light) wheels, 13", 15" and 16". I'll see how long I can stand taking the wheels out and putting them back in the basement.
The replacement itself is not that complicated and difficult (with a good tool, everything can be replaced easily), but I find it very tiring to take out and put to basement.
And so, I replaced the summer tires with aluminum rims, which I really like, with zinc ones, with steel rims and wheel caps.
It's winter, the car doesn't look as nice as it does with aluminum rims...
Maybe for the next tire change, when they are worn out, I will decide to buy M+S on alloy wheels and not change them at the end of the season.
And so, instead of one story for you this weekend, based on the topic given by @galenkp, I told another.
Well, now that I have mounted the winter tires, tomorrow morning, I have to wake up again before dawn, and hit the road, to finish the work I had planned for today... And which I also don't like 😃
