Tornik, Zlatibor - View of the golden pines
He who stands on the hill even a little sees more than the one under the hill (Ko na brdu, ak' imalo stoji više vidi no onaj pod brdom.)
P.P. Njegoš
I am standing on the observation deck, looking at the distant horizon and thinking about this verse from "Gorski vjenac".
The author of the work, Njegoš, certainly did not think of climbing the hills, but metaphorically, the hill represents exaltation in knowledge, education, position....
But for this occasion, it seemed to me that the verse was right to apply to the occasion.
Because when I climbed the hill, I could really see the whole area much better 🙂

Zlatibor, a mountain and nature park in western Serbia, covers an area of about 1000 km².
The highest peak is Tornik, at an altitude of 1496m, which does not make this mountain high, but it is still enough for a beautiful view when you are at the top.
From the bottom of the hill, to the top of Tornik, it can be reached by footpaths, quad bikes or cable car.
I'm not a quad driver.
If I were to start from the foothills, I think I would have passed out halfway, and for that reason, we decide to take the cable car to the top.
We buy tickets, sit in our seats and head to the top, looking around.
We have a beautiful, clear and sunny day, so we can clearly see quite far away.
When we reached the top, we conclude that we were not wrong to not go on foot, because we would have really gotten hurt.
It's far, it's uphill...
At the top we find the highest point, a stone that marks the elevation.
Tornik in 1496.
Right next to it, there is a wooden observation deck, from which the view is even better, because it extends over the crowns of the surrounding trees.
I think the view would be even better if I could lean on the poles where the antennas and repeater are located, but luckily for me, the access to the poles is locked, so I couldn't check and confirm that this was indeed the case.
At the top there is a mountain lodge (restaurant and cafe), which in this summer tour, instead of warming up, we use it for refreshment.
We enjoy drinking coffee and a refreshing drink with a view of the surrounding glades and remaining forests.
Unfortunately, Zlatibor, and especially the center with tourist facilities, is so urbanized that it has lost the charm of a small place for rest and recreation.

The name Zlatibor comes from a special type of pine, (golden), which was widespread in this area.
While the center was expanding, forests and pine trees were cut down, so now it is a real pleasure to see that on the slopes of Tornik, the forests are not completely devastated.
Even now, looking at the sky, you can see the branches of that wonderful golden pine.

After drinking coffee, we found a place to sit and enjoy the view until we decide to go back.
We enjoy our rest on the improvised bench and think about how true the saying on the nearby board is...
Once you feel the flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes fixed on the sky, where you have been and where you want to return.

In order to avoid walking for several hours to the foot of Tornik, we get on the cable car again and ride to the bottom.
On the way back, there is an even more impressive view in front of us. Unparalleled enjoyment...

I can't wait to go to Zlatibor again, in order to take a ride on the new attraction - the Gold Gondola, which transports tourists from the center of Zlatibor to the top of Tornik, in a length of 9 km.
Thank you for stopping by my post and I hope you enjoyed the photos and the story I shared with you
