Open heart street, Belgrade, first of January

It is a manifestation of a humanitarian character that has been held every first January in Svetogorska Street in Belgrade for over 50 years.

In front of the "Atelje 212" theater, a stage has been set up for years, on which performances are performed all day every first January.

Magicians, clowns, costumed actors, a choir, stalls with mulled wine and hot chocolate, pastries and cakes, cotton candy, candied fruit and other decorations are unmissable attractions in this street.

The entire manifestation is of a humanitarian character, where the collected funds are allocated to various children's associations, and the project of Dr. Clown (based on the story from the Robin Williams movie, "Patch Adams") when the collected funds are used to provide actors who visit children in children's hospitals, disguised as clowns.

For the last 30 years, every first January when I'm not somewhere outside of Belgrade, after watching a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic, I go out to the city center and walk along this street.

I must buy a sponge nose, listen to a mini-concert (this time the ensemble of Biljana Krstic "Bistrik" was on stage), drink a glass of mulled wine and eat some delicacy. This time I bought a delicious raisin stick at the pastry stand.

Yesterday before noon it was a nice sunny day, but during our walk it became cloudy, the temperature dropped a lot and it started to rain. Just in time to retire to the apartment and watch a nice New Year's movie.

To anyone who is in Belgrade for New Year's Eve and who is there on January 1, I recommend a tour of the "street of the open heart", because it is one of the most beautiful experiences, dedicated to children, who come accompanied by adults, especially with the fun program that takes place in front of theaters.
