It's easy for you, you work in IT
How many times have you heard this statement, who, like me, work in the IT industry, in whatever branch of IT you work?
I think that in any part of the IT sector you work, you must have had demands and needs to work on Weekends?
Have you ever worked (at your job) on the weekend?
Yes, very often.
When I saw the topic that @galenkp announced for this weekend, all I needed to prepare the material for it was to power on my computer and search the folders with photos, which we make to document every serious project, which must be performed on weekends, and most often on national or religious holidays, when we have more non-working days, if we need more time for the work.
And what do you do on weekends in the IT sector?
Maybe some replacement of equipment, some update server or application, replacement of the software version, or just testing the functionality after the work of colleagues from another part of the IT sector...
We work on weekends because that's when we least threaten business processes... You know when you click on your favorite website, and it says "Under Maintenance".
This is not acceptable for business processes, and we perform all planned maintenance activities on weekends...
Of all the work weekend photo folders, the one from june 2019 is somehow the most significant to me.
During the construction of a new warehouse in 2018, in the design phase, I agreed on the construction of a server room, to which the server equipment was to be moved from a smaller server room of another object in the complex of the company where I work.
Shutting down the data center and transferring the equipment is a very challenging project, which we have been planning for more than a year. In addition to delays due to business processes that cannot be interrupted, we also had a challenge with weather conditions, which twice delayed moving the equipment.
Third time lucky…
Early on Saturday morning june 12, 2019 we gathered at the location and dismantled all the equipment from the server room.
We watched as the equipment was transferred to the new server room, and when everything was physically transferred and placed in its new place, we started connecting.
How long have we been working? On Saturday morning, eight of us gathered at the location, and we saw not one sunset, but two... On Saturday, we went home around 8 p.m., and on Sunday around 10 p.m. (although we were at the location around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning).
There was no time for a quality meal, both days we ate previously prepared sandwiches..
We could not leave the equipment out of order, everything had to be connected and put into operation so that colleagues could resume their regular work activities on Monday morning.
So that when they come to work, they don't find the message "under maintenance" on their computer screens...
That weekend in June 2019 was successful, although it was too long, but serious and demanding work was done.
And so every time you plan an maintenance... Announce to your colleagues, family, prepare to be away for one or two days of the weekend and the direction of the server room.
But you know what, that weekend job is not tiring for me. We work when there are no crowds and colleagues who have various requests, for those weekend days we get free days that we can use on weekdays, sometimes we get a bonus for a successfully completed project,
And there is also the satisfaction of a successfully completed project :-)
Good work!!
We were overworked that weekend, but a really big, serious job was done.
And to this day, everything works like a Swiss watch, without a mistake :-)
Oh yeah, I can see that is serious business XD
