An abandoned mansion, like a house of horror
The once magnificent pre-war villa, on Vračar in Belgrade, at the corner of Krunska and Smiljanićeva, at Krunska 66, is today like the backdrop of a horror movie.
It reminds me of a house of horrors.
It has had no tenants for over 20 years.
Unsettled property and legal relations and the negligence of the heirs have led to the fact that no one takes care of this villa.
Although it is located in one of the central city streets and is surrounded by buildings of various embassies, the Nikola Tesla Museum and the student polyclinic are also nearby.
Only a stray dog, a stray cat, a rat or a homeless person live in this building.
The homeless crept into the building after dark, not risking arrest by the guards of the nearby embassies.
I noticed this villa a long time ago when I was passing by Krunska Street, but I never dared to approach it, not so much for fear of the presence of the police, as for fear that part of the facade, wall or roof would collapse. .
The villa suffered several fires (probably due to homeless people lighting fires and trying to keep warm on cold days), and its roof was completely damaged.
In addition to the large area of the villa itself, over 200 m², there is also a yard of over 300 m², which no one has been enjoying for a quarter of a century. A cat happens by, a bird lands, but a human foot rarely sets foot in the villa's yard.
Even the city officials, who should solve the case of this unfortunate building in the heart of the city, avoid entering the courtyard of the mansion, shifting the responsibility for its maintenance to the heirs, and the question is where they are and if they are interested in this mansion as an inheritance.
