Drawing the Red Dragon for the Splinterlands Art Contest
First off I would like to begin this post by sharing with you the colors I used as well as the brand. Going through some of my old posts, I noticed that I don’t have the habit of doing this and decided to start now.
For this drawing, I used a set of Prisma pencils. The colors would have been more lovelier if it were just that but the made is Verithin. These pencils are especially used for drawing tiny details because of their naturally hard texture. As a result of the texture, I do a lot of layering in order to arrive at something superb. I will try doing more realistic works over the week and would love for you to see them. I am getting some new ideas and lessons on how to use color pencils and will be trying them out.
With that being said, I move on to the subject of today. Here I have a Red Dragon. The reference I used was a simple drawing with typical spikes but I eventually turned it into this. I removed the belly scales, added the wings, changed the horns, give him a different back and neck work. Typically the only constant is the position of the head and even there I had some horns (like in the original Red Dragon Splinterlands reference below) implanted.
