The earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday has killed 296 people with the death toll expected to rise as rescuers search the piles of rubble.



A statement from the Ministry of the Interior announced that deaths were recorded in the provinces and prefectures of Al Haouz, Marrakech and Ouarzazate.



An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 on the Richter scale struck Morocco’s Al Haouz Province (center) on Friday evening, the National Institute of Geophysics reported.



Thee epicenter of the earthquake, which was at a depth of approximately 8 kilometers, was located at a latitude of 30,961 degrees north and a longitude of 8,413 degrees west, pointed out the Institute, which located the epicenter in the municipality of Ighil, in the province of Al Haouz.
