Eragon, Chapters 53-56

These four chapters really helped deepen the world of Alagaesia for me. Eragon is in a world of many types of cultures, politics and pressures from all angles it seems. All different magical creatures and people have their eyes set squarely on Eragon and Saphira.

Chapters read:

  • 53 - Bless the Child, Argetlam
  • 54 - Mandrake Root and Newt's Tongue
  • 55 - Hall of the Mountain King
  • 56 - Arya's Test

Eragon and Saphira blessing that child seemed really odd. Crazy just how sacred a dragon and rider is to many people. Angela is consistently highly mysterious, hilarious and quite powerful. Feels like she's mostly here for the entertainment of it all, but she is also somewhat kind.

Meeting King Hrogthar was way cooler than I remembered it being. Hrogthar seems tough and honorable. He point blank said that dwarves are the original peoples of Alagaesia which is insanely cool. I may have known this at some point in time but this fact seems to have slipped my mind. Blows my mind how ancient they really are.

Arya showing up while the Twins were being nasty yet again was an epic moment. First time she's been actually awake. It was cool how everyone's mind was blown seeing an elf in person. She really is a unique mysterious character herself. Powerful and fair. 'Arya's Test' ended sort of romantically in a way, it seems Eragon has a liking for Arya and Murtagh, Nasuada. I found Murtagh's enjoyment of being alone extremely relatable.

All in all, these were good chapters. Paolini really jammed in a lot of events towards the end here which I find interesting. I feel the anticipation for the end of this book and all the while I am learning new things.

Last part of Eragon in the next post! It's been an epic journey for sure. Can't wait to share my thoughts on how this finishes up.
