My Actifit Report Card: January 29 2024
Hey Actifitters,
It seems the week is starting just like the previous one finished, very gloomy and drizzly weather. And that means I am once again struggling with getting out the door for our daily walks before nightfall.
The night was also very dark, so even with the night mode, and as much brightness as I could add, all my forest photos are darker than I hoped, and more green.
Kaia went after a few critters anyways, it's a bit scary when she's gone in the darkness for several minutes.
Can you see that blurry thing there, that's her just starting a big chase after deer.
But on that tree mulch pile, I was able to catch a few not too blurry. Not that easy when you can't even see what you're shooting!
Soon after that, we heard some whistles, and saw a light in the distance. Somebody with a dog off-leash was also in the forest! Two stranger off-leash dogs meeting in the forest at night, probably not a good idea! So we rushed in the other direction and out the forest.
We stayed near its edge though, and used the available light sources in the street.
Just a quick stop at our tree friend, and we were on our way back.
It's funny, people apparently all decided to take down their decorations yesterday, because most of the ones I noticed the day before were gone.
But a few ones persisted and kept them for now.
Late at night, I noticed I actually had a chance to pass the bar. Unfortunately, my running around in the background wasn't enough, and it's my first stumble in #poprzeczka in January. Two more chances to stay in the competition.

I usually don't even carry a light (I do have my cell phone though if I get really lost), so it just feels much better with the dog close by. She uses scents to find our way on the trails!

I seen someone walking their dog with led light all on their lead i saw the dog from miles off taht maybe an idea for when it is dark may interfere with Kaia's ability to hunt though 🤣

I actually have several lights specifically for dogs, even a LED harness, but I just forget them all the time. Not even sure where they are... Even in darkness, Kaia doesn't catch many critters anyways. I think it's more for fun and sports.

What would happen if two dogs met in the forest? Would they engage in a fight?
The photos are quite bright. Doesn't look like night photographs.

Well, not sure, but a fight is a possibility, because they can be easily startled at night, and react. Kaia's usually mellow, but if another dog runs at her without warning, she will react for sure.
I had to add more brightness than usual, which is why they look greener too.

You have a beautiful forest to walk your dog in, it was wise to leave when the other dog showed up. I have one dog that would have played with your dog, the other dog, it could go either way. It is best to play it safe.

Thanks! Yeah I agree, way too many unknowns in a nightly encounter with a stranger dog. Like I was saying in another comment, Kaia is usually fine with other dogs, willing to play, but if she's attacked or even just startled a bit too much, she will react.
