Marcus Mariota Days Until Titans Football! + Titans Madden 23 Game

Good old Marcus Mariota. Marcus Mariota was a pretty decent QB for the Titans from 2015-2019. He never became the superstar talent that many including myself hoped he'd become after having a historically great college career. But he made some solid plays over the years and really did help turn the Titans around when the team was in the dark ages.

Mariota even helped lead the Titans to the playoffs in the 2017-18 season and won a thrilling game against the Chiefs in that post-season!

Mariota helped lead the Titans to three straight 9-7 seasons until Tannehill came in and basically took his job in that 2019-2020 season. I don't know if Mariota really appreciated his departure from the Titans, but I know most Titans fan appreciate what he did for the franchise. In many ways his impact on the team is still felt from this day. Mariota didn't turn the Titans from losers to champions, but he definitely, along with players like DeMarco Murray, helped turn the Titans from losers to respectable winners.

Nowadays Mariota has been a backup QB. He did get another chance to start in 2022, but ultimately the Falcons moved in a different direction after Mariota led the team to a 5-8 record. Recently he signed with the Eagles as the backup to Jalen Hurts. If the Titans can't win it all I guess I wouldn't be furious to see Mariota get himself a ring.

A throwback Madden clip of Mariota by me!

Another good old Madden 23 game. Hopefully soon I can buy Madden 24.

Love this. I'm down in Australia and woke up 3am to watch Mariota games. There was also a Madden Ultimate Team where he had a special card, 91 rated I think it was. Saved up for that bad boy and scrambled every play. Massive Mariota fan. Have a signed jersey and all. On the right offensive scheme I think he could be a starter

Yes, Mariota definitely provided some fun moments over the years! I really want the new Madden soon!! I haven't played Ultimate Team in awhile, would love to start one up again. Keep that jersey safe!! I've personally lost some precious memorabilia over the years. Yes I think it is possible he could start still. I even think he played pretty well with the Falcons too, but was remarkably unlucky in several games. He's still fairly young and has not taken too much damage over the past three-four years so there's still a bit of time to possibly start somewhere eventually!

There are quite a few good QB's out there that never really got a chance to shine as bright as they might have. There are a lot of factors involved and much of the time this can have to do with a poor offensive line. Cam Newton was seen as exceptional at Carolina, for example, but this happened to coincide with the same years that the Panthers had one of the best offensive lines in the league. Once that fell apart, he looked average at best. I found it very unfair that a lot of this drop in offense was blamed on him even though it was very clear to anyone paying attention that he was getting absolutely wrecked by the defense. I'd love for these pundits blaming it on him to try to thread the needle on a pass when you have about 2.5 seconds before some 300lb + mofo is going to try to smash your spine.

In the years that Marcus Mariota shined, do you happen to recall if the Titans offensive line was stellar?

The case of Mariota is an interesting one, I can't say he truly shined too much as a QB. He had a handful of very good games but they were fairly rare. The offensive line in Mariota's time was above average as a whole. When Taylor Lewan, Jack Conklin, Ben Jones, and Rodger Saffold were there it was pretty good, all four of those o-lineman are Pro Bowl/All-Pro caliber. The Titans always ran the ball at a high level essentially since 2016. I feel as though when Mariota broke his leg at the end of the 2016-17 season he became more nervous in the pocket. It's hard to block those lineman forever if the QB is indecisive! In 2019 Tannehill came in and ran that offense fantastically after Mariota was struggling mightily. I just think that we simply may have seen Mariota's ceiling as a QB.
