So beautiful piece!!
Sometimes I use to make my own canvas (especially the larger ones) in a similar way. I place the fabric (I use old cotton bedclothes I buy at the second hand markets) on the wall in my lab. I give it some touches of white gesso mixed with water (but in the past I used also white tempera or acrylic) and when it dried enough I start to paint. ^_^
