Manchester United’s stoppage-time equaliser against Chelsea means the club are now six games unbeaten, and they have Casemiro to thank.
His late header saved Scott McTominay’s blushes in a tight contest after the substitute conceded a penalty which Jorginho converted in what was an energetic final 10 minutes.
Earlier in the half, Raphael Varane was forced off with a nasty-looking knee injury. He left the field in tears, perhaps fearful that his World Cup hopes might be over with less than a month to go before the tournament begins.
When reflecting on the match, United fans will remember that injury, the penalty and Casemiro’s passionate celebration after the equaliser. But there are other moments supporters may have missed.
Lisandro Martinez showed his inner determination during the match, squaring up and staring down Mason Mount before colliding with Jorginho towards the end, leaving the Italian on the deck.
And after Casemiro’s goal was given by the referee, he screamed in delight, knocking into goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and directing his celebrating voice at him before running off to join his teammates in celebration.
Erik ten Hag showed his disappointment when Antony missed a great chance on the stroke of half-time. The Brazilian fired his right-footed shot wide of the target when he should have done better.
It left his manager with his head in his hands, rueing what would have been a lethal blow to Chelsea just before the break.
Chelsea substitute Mateo Kovacic clearly didn’t mind the cold post-match. While players usually hand over shirts to fans as souvenirs after full-time, the Croat went one step further.
He also handed over his shorts to a supporter before jogging off in just his underwear, hopefully into a warm shower.
