"The thing I love is in Kiev, I can't leave this city," says Yarina Areva.

Ukraine's first lady has called it "women's resistance" on her Instagram account.

Olina Zelenska, wife of President Vladimir Zelensky, has been sharing photos on social media highlighting women's efforts since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

And Olina is not alone. Since the end of February, social media has been flooded with images of women in military uniforms and armed men ready to fight.

Families are shattered. The majority of women and children have turned to the West for protection, while many women's husbands and fathers have been left behind to defend against Russian attacks.

However, despite the danger, many women, including Zelenska, are left behind.
