TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD

Life starts in the blink of an eye when a cell meets with another. The process of childbirth is a very beautiful but irritating one, depending on the person.

From childhood, we've been taught, groomed and trained in a particular way to follow so that we will become valuable people to our community and the world at large.

I almost forgot, happy new month everyone. Hehe.

Some people face hardship in life starting from a very young age. They gain experience, know how to handle pain and their id, ego and super ego tend to grow faster than we can imagine. Due to this hardship, they tend to critically discern on any situation, thus, standing out by getting profound solutions to any problem they ever encounter in life. My country is filled with people like this. From birth, they tend to face lots of hardship which has helped make them better people in life. Though some who are not strong enough tend to go through the wrong path that always land them into trouble.

Speak of country and growth. Fo a person to top being a minor in my country, they must have attain the age of 18. I have not actually make any research to know why this is so.

I do not see it as a bad thing, but I think it's too early. Undoubtedly, 18 is enough for a person to develop all sexual features as well as be able to critically think out factual solutions to diverse problems. However, most people lack experience to deal with the real work which makes them to more or less still be unfit to be seen as a major.

From my perspective, being a major comes with lots of responsibilities which an 18 year old kid can not yet handle. These responsibilities are enough to make a weak run made.

Personally, I would say that the age be shifted to 20. Not that the person will still have enough experience, but then, the person would have experienced a handful of things from life. The person would have gone to school or gone to learn a skill which will teach the person how hard life can be, thus, giving him some experience.

Age 20 is enough to be sure that a person has grown of age to be able to take care of themselves. Many people tend to miss the freedom of being being a being able to make decisions for themselves. Some begin to drink and take hard substance, some begin so smoke uncontrollably. They tend to misuse this freedom.

The age 20 is actually ideal for a person to be seen a mature. During this age, people tend to get little experience from their environment.

On second thought

Age does not really matter in things like this. I think, with experience comes maturity. A person who have not actually experienced how hard life can be, will never be able to understand anything in life. That person will be as weak and flaccid as a freely hanging male gonad.

Maturity comes with a lot of experience. A person must experience the good, the baddest (not just bad) and the ugly as well as the hardest of it all. Not only that, they must be able to navigate through these times with little or no help from others, face betrayal and learn alot from all of these hardships. Failure to learn will not help the person grow and be seen as mature.

I understand and agree with your point. Maturity is produced only through experience. Good and bad experiences. Most importantly, maturity comes with failures and bouncing back from them.

Someone who is considered old agewise, but has had everything handed over to him easily, might not necessarily be mature.

I enjoyed reading this. Nice work.

I think this is the reason some igbos who grew up in the village tend to be stagnated. They inherited almost everything they have.

I think you have a point. Many countries deem 18 to be the ideal. The thing is, maturity goes beyond age. There are people who not yet 18 but they exhibit maturity traits that 21yr olds lack, and this is because of experiences they have had to go through.

Youre right. There are people who are 21 but still exhibit the attitude of a 14. The more experienced a person is, the more mature he gets

I also do not think maturity comes with age as foolish people grow old too. Likewise we see people who are well composed and acts overly mature for their age. Like you rightly said, its all about the experience I would also add the willingness of one to take responsibilities of their actions which often stem from their life's experiences.

Age shifted to 20? Lol..it will take long list of processes to do that in Nigeria . However I agree with you that maturity is by experience mostly.. sometimes u see a teenager thinking critically more than an adult

Lol..
Some people may be 20 and still behave like children. I trust Nigeria with the way they will prolong it before agreeing to it. Hehe
