THE STORY BEHIND MY FIRST PAY.
They say life is not a bed of roses. However, after viewing and experiencing life from different perspectives, I say life is a bed of roses and a bed of thorns, all depending on your input.
I had a beautiful childhood while growing up. Always being provided for. I did not care where the money came from. A cry can get my wants to my table.
Growing older to be a child who is always curious, I always want to mirror everything my mom does. This includes working. Every time, I talk to Mom about applying for a job to support her and also, take some responsibilities, my responsibility but she refused.
I never gave up, I always insisted that I want to work. Always crying to see if she will change her mind but to no avail. I can not remember the exact age (probably between age 10 to 13), I went behind my mother's back to apply for a job in a place that wholesales beer. I was asked about my mom but I just went round the question. Convinced the owner of the place about my capacity and he decided to give me employment as a delivery boy. My duty was to use a wheel barrow to supply beer to the close by bars and retail stores while my boss goes out with his van to do long distance supplies. I was placed on a thousand naira salary per week (about 0.85 dollars) and I was given daily allowance for lunch. I was very happy. It was a huge money for me. It could buy a lot of things for me back then but now? Lol. Let's not take about it. Haha. I Began work immediately. The first week was hell on earth. Haha. As a person who has not worked before, I found it difficult to push the barrow.
Gradually, I began to adapt. My body became used to the work and that is how I continued.
After a while of working there, I saw another job that payed 1500 naira per week, with a higher lunch allowance. I did not waste any time and I applied for it too. I got it and migrated to work there. Back then, I was the biggest boy in town. My friends parents always used me as a example when scolding their children.
My mom noticed my constant absence when she comes home from work and she asked me about. I could not lie to my mom. I fearfully told her what I was doing. though skeptical, she gave me her support. I received a 3 hour lecture on the important of being careful. Haha.
I was happy that there is no more need to hide my work. I began to give my mom money for airtime and some other things while I save the remaining. It was really a nice time though.
