The opinion that enlarged the senators coast

Decision making is one of the most difficult thing there is to do in a team because it requires the opinion of every single team member there is.

Most of the times, it is left for the team leader to make a decision because he/she is seen as someone who is supposed to have a broad knowledge and experience.

At times, the leaders decision may lead the team and it's members to their doom. At times, the leaders decision can also lead the entire team to greener pastures.

In factuality, the entire team members of a given team are supposed to come together and make a decision that will be either beneficial to the team or parasitic to the team. However, when making these decisions, there are opinions from different team members, some of these opinions work out while others don't.

In this post, I will share with you when diversity of opinion worked out for the team I was leading and when my own opinion worked out.

Stay tuned and fasten your seat belt as I take you on a joyous ride.

HOW A DIVERSITY OPINION WORKED OUT

It all started when I became the Senate president of my school. I was happy to be the Senate president and everything as going well.

In my school, the senators are responsible for conducting election and as such, I and my senators began preparation to conduct an election for the new student union government.

The preparations went well until it came to the time for us to make decisions on the price of forms for the participants. I suggested about a particular price but my vice said it is too costly and we should sale the first at a cheap and affordable rate. I told him to explain his reasons and he went further to say that the form should be sold cheap so that more people will contest for a post, thereby raising money for the Senate. I thought of it and I gave an open floor for everyone to share their views and they supported his motion. I too, seeing how strategic his plans was, decided to buy the idea.

I went with his opinion and the results was really great. We had over 4 people contesting for a particular post and it increased the finances of the Senate through the sales of form.

HOW MY OPINION WORKED OUT

It was in school, when we were given a group presentation on HIV/AIDS AND ITS THERAPY.

Being the course rep, I emerged as the group leader and I directed how everything will go which went well. I told the team members to go and make their different research in the topic, after which we will come together to compile our research into one.

I motivated my teammates to exclusively study their works which they did.

I noticed that other groups are submitting their works on a fullscap sheet and as such, I gave an opinion to my teammate, saying that we should type our work and print it out so that it will look more professional. They initially disagreed because of the cost of typing it but after much persuasion, they finally agreed.

Long story short, we finished our presentation and came out as the best group that presented because of the way we explained our work, and also the way we presented our work.

WHAT I LEARNT FROM BOTH SITUATIONS

I learnt a very important lesson after these two encounters.

From the first, I learnt that being the leader does not mean you're the smartest and as such, you should give other people a chance to to try out their opinion.

From the second, I learnt that irrespective of the cost of something, a good presentation always comes with a good price.

That will be all for this post, I really appreciate the fact that you read up till this point.

Thank you and have a wonderful time. I hope to see you next time.

The role you played as a leader was sensational, because for me a good leader is one who listens to the members of his team, there is no point in him wanting to impose everything, as this will erode the relationship between everyone.

A good leader stops and listens to his colleagues, looking for the best solution to the situations they face.

A rigid person is not fit for leadership. Though at some point, being rigid also helps but I think being rigid should be occasional..

Flexibility don't only aids in perfection, it also help the team get a mutual understanding and trust.

I agree with you, there needs to be flexibility for each situation, so that we reach the perfect balance for coexistence and leadership.

I believe that a leader is someone who can listen and lead people towards greater problem solving, it is not easy to seek balance in situations, everything has the possibility of error, so brainstorming is essential to seek to evolve

There is a common saying 'too many cooks spoil the broth'. Diversity is enriching for any team but one person needs to lead that group to ensure that they are united in their purpose and that their activities are directed as efficiently and effectively as possible. You will almost never be able to achieve complete consensus on any one thing, but a true leader will be able to unify a team behind a shared objective regardless of individual opinions. I will always hold leaders in high regard. True Leaders are inspiring and lead selflessly with everyone's best interests at heart.

I dropped in from Dreemport this evening.

Unity is the best thing to uphold if a team is thriving towards achieving success. When there are too many leaders, it will be hard to get the unity and as such the team will fall into pieces..
