Learning Difficulties.

The act of learning new things is something that makes us humans and brings us high in terms of self development.

We are people who have been blessed with a very good mental capacity to learn, evolve and adapt to many people harsh conditions of the planet. One thing I cherish about life is that: learning is a process that lasts a life time, it never ends until we seize to exists.

Impressively, there are some people who can learn something in a blink of an eye. They can see something and actually learn every details about that thing in less than a day, no matter how difficult the thing might be, while they are some people who can spend 6 months learning a skill and still not be good at it.

I am one such person that learns faster and effectively when I practicalize things but find it a little bit difficult to learn theoretical stuffs. Worthy of note is when I went to do my project binding.

Few weeks ago, I was a final year student who just finished his project work and was about to bind it with a thick material so it will look presentable.

I collected some projects from my coursemates and headed to where they will bind it. I submitted the work to the binder and decided to rest a little before leaving. Peaking at what he was doing, I found myself being interested in the work, so I decided to give it attention. I saw how he was doing everything, arranging the letters, cutting the thick papers, gumming and folding the printed section on the thick paper. I watched for some time and I started visualizing everything in my head. I imagined myself doing it, I imagined the mistakes I will make and the corrections I have to take in other to be good in it and I also used my hand to make an imaginary print out for the work.

I came the next day, saw how he was doing it, then corrected the imagination I had the previous day. On the third day when I came back, I asked him to give me to do but he was reluctant. Thankfully, he was in a hurry and will not meet up if he don't get extra hands, so he reluctantly gave me some to help him staple and apply gum. I collected it, did the magic as I imagined and I got it perfectly after two trials (though he did not notice my mistakes but I knew i made a mistake). He was surprised and told me that people do learn the work for 3 to 6 months but I got it on my first try. He asked me how I did it but I told him that I saw how he was doing it. I joined in the process of making the project cover, even though I was the one that brought the work for him to do. After that, I gained some experience and could currently comfortably do a project cover given that I have the complete materials.

Even though I have a good learning skill, there are some things that prove to be very difficult for me to learn. One such thing is when I read. I find it difficult to read and learn.

When I was still in my second year, there is a topic that was very difficult for me to learn. Menstrual cycle, fertilization and implantation. This topic was somewhat difficult for me to learn. If I learn it today, I will forget most of it tomorrow. The cycle continues and it was very difficult for me. No matter how I imagine it, it was very difficult fr me, probably because I'm not a lady. Haha. During those days, I will always read the topic a day to exams so that I will write it and pass. Up till date, even as a graduate, I have not learnt the topic. Well, I guess I will have to keep reading and reading until it sticks to my head.

From these two events, one thing I came to understand about my self is that compared to when I read, I learn better and faster when I practicalize things.

One thing I told myself afterwards was that I need to learn how improve myself through reading. I may not have the opportunity to always practicalize things, but I will always have the opportunity to learn by reading.
