#Alfalfa is mostly known as feed for livestock, which is why I wasn't surprised to find it growing wild at #WarsingDam in #NorthDakota. It's also super nutritious for us as well and is considered a #SuperFood, because of the high level of essential nutrients and fiber it provides and it's loaded with powerful #antioxidents.

Because it's so popular as cow or horse feed, many would never guess it blesses us with these beautiful blooms. Every part of the plant above the ground can be eaten or steeped into a tea and the seeds can be ground and mixed in with flour to heighten the nutrition profile.

Do you know Alfalfa was originally from Iran!! Now we have so many varieties available here. The one I feed my horses has about 21.75% protein. No other grass can match that protein content , but they like clover too. Alfalfa has deep roots and does well during droughts too.

I didn't know it was from Iran, but do know it's extremely hardy and that's why it's so wide spread these days.
