I had a pretty long discussion with some Hive members the other night about self-voting, curious what everyone's thoughts are on that?
It just doesn't sit right with me for some reason so I'll never do that. But everyone's got a right to do what they want with their own stake, I guess.
How do you guys feel about that topic?
Cool within reason? (1 post per day or something)
Not cool at all?
Use all your power on your own posts and fuck everyone else?

We can't selfvote on this platform. There are other websites for that kind of stuff
You can post here and then go to somee.blog to self vote, I've seen a lot of people doing it.
And just to be clear, I'm not saying they shouldn't, or that they are wrong for doing it.
I'm asking genuinely if people think it's ethical or not.
Personally it doesn't sit right with me so I don't do it myself. But I wouldn't necessarily judge anyone else if they do it.
One point that one of the Hive members mentioned to me was "if you posted something then you believe that your post adds value to the platform... therefore you should upvote it, to incentivize that value"
That kind of makes sense. I still don't really like the idea of it though so I'm not gonna start doing it.
I call bullshit on the adds value idea. I know someone likes their post because they made it. We post contnet to see if other people like it.
Yeah, a couple people were telling me that I should upvote my stuff too and I just don't really agree.
I did not know one could self upvote on hive blog. We used to be able to do it on the old platform, but they changed it because of abuse I think. Personally I think it makes for better content on you can't just post 10 crappy posts and upvote yourself.
I do think the hive guy has a point, but for the platform to thrive I think we should refrain from doing so. I also believe the blog will be closed at some point, when the platform is ready right?
Even if the blog is closed, any content on hive can be interacted with from other parts of hive. Somee.blog is just a front end, there are a whole bunch of others that people can use also.
You can see all your somee posts on hive.blog, peakd, ecency, or any of the dozen outposts on tribaldex
Surprising! Self upvoting sounds like saying I agree with myself or self praising oneself lol
It's certainly interesting hearing everyone's take on this.
I mean, I could see how once in a while a self vote might have its place... like maybe you have a really important message that people need to see, so you use your voting power to try and make it "trend".
But I don't really feel like that's what most people are doing when they engage in this.
That also only applies to Hive on layer 1 anyway. We have the "promote" option on hive-engine so you could just spend a few SME if you wanted your post to trend.
I've done it a few times. First just to see if I could. Then a few times when I got pissy about my SME being worth next to nothing and not really having any funds to buy more at the current low price. In general I don't really like it though. If everyone just posted ten times a day and upvoted their own stuff the platform would fall apart.

I’m against self upvote but I do understand people with 1000 HP or less upvoting their own post in a effort to grow their account.
Self voting shows a lack of community support, especially for individuals with a large amount of voting power.
There is one tribe that doesn't allow that and that's the reason why I stopped using its tags on my posts. I am just reflecting on real life. If we are allowed to vote on others, why restrict voting to ourselves? Of course, there is also a difference between real-life voting and the incentive mechanism built-in on Hive. And I think that's where the difficulty lies. Up to what extent self-voting should be allowed? If Hive and all layer 2 dApps would prohibit it, can this be coded?
