The head of Finance warned about phishing mailings on behalf of the exchange
The CEO of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange warned users about phishing mailings that unknown scammers send on behalf of the platform. Changpeng Zhao posted on Twitter a screenshot of an SMS that came to his phone from intruders. The SMS contained a warning about a request to withdraw money from an account on the Binance exchange, received from an unknown IP address. There was a link in the text of the SMS, which the user is asked to follow if he did not send a request for withdrawal of funds. Clicking on the link will cancel the intended request, the SMS said. The head of Binance hastened to tell users about the incident and recommended them to enter the exchange only through the official Binance website. "The scammers decided to conduct a massive phishing scam via SMS, kindly providing a link to cancel withdrawals. In fact, the link leads to a phishing website to collect your credentials and then steal digital assets," Zhao warns. Recently, an NFT collector suffered from a phishing attack, losing crypto assets totaling $2.2 million. By clicking on the link leading to a "phishing contract" disguised as a genuine NFT application, the user would allow this contract to spend tokens on his behalf. According to PhishLabs, over the past year, the number of phishing attacks on cryptocurrency trading platforms has increased tenfold. Most of these attacks occur using the brand and the names of company executives.
