You Miss 100% of the Shots You Don't Take

I was going to write one of my usual researched crypto posts but I just wasn't feeling it this morning. I wanted to talk about something more important.

Don't miss the opportunity to take a shot

I know the statement sounds cliche or redundant. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" sounds like such an obvious statement, but it's a powerful one. I've been doing a lot of self-reflecting and stuff like that lately as my life has changed a lot in the past year. I had been stuck in a loop of working the same day job day in and day out... It was time for a change. It was time I took a shot at something that scared me.

As I've gotten older, I've learned that in order to get anywhere in life, you need to step out of your comfort zone. If you stay within your comfort zone, you'll probably do the same thing forever and that's just not something I want to do. I want to achieve financial freedom. I want to be able to travel. I want to be able to really live life. Above all else, I want to take care of my family and live a simple, minimalistic lifestyle.

I don't want to be Squidward.

The way I look at work has evolved a lot since I started doing crypto content. I've been in crypto since 2015 and you'd think at this point, I would have figured it all out and achieved what I want. Unfortunately, the universe has had different plans for me, and I just have to keep pushing. I want to create crypto content for the rest of my life.

When I quit my job, I had 2 goals. The first one was to open my own business, which I did. My second goal was to become a well-known crypto content creator. I've never been much of a writer and honestly used to dread it. But since I started creating content here on Hive, I feel like I've found myself. At first I was just lost and trying to figure out what worked for me. Then I figured it out. Now I just have to be consistent and persistent.

Don't miss the opportunity to take a shot

Yeah, I know I already said that above, and I did that for a reason. Every day in life, we are presented with hundreds of opportunities, no matter how small they may be. Whether it's doing something a different way than you're used to or the opportunity to do something you've never done before. The business I opened is in a field that I have zero experience in, and I'm learning along the way. It's not the way I wanted to do things, but I took a shot. Maybe I'll make it. Maybe not.

I believe in the law of averages. I believe that if you try your best at as many things as you can, that you will succeed at at least one of those things. I've been juggling so many things in my life recently that it feels hopeless. It feel like 10,000 pounds sitting on my shoulders and I'm just struggling to keep walking up the hill. But because I believe in being persistent in every single thing that you do.... I keep going no matter how hard it is.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that you need to wake up at 4am every day to succeed. I'm not going to tell you that you need to work 12+ hours a day for some giant corporation to survive. What I'm getting at is that the way I view "work" has changed a lot, and there's so much opportunity for individuals to make it on their own. The more shots you take, the more opportunities you have to make it, and I'm not talking about alcohol.

For a long time, I've wanted to launch my own NFT collection, and I feel like it's time to take that shot. I'm not getting any younger and the crypto world moves at 10,000 miles per hour. If I don't take the shot, I'll never know if I can make it doing that. I'm not looking to get rich. I'm just looking to do something bigger than what I'm doing now.

So if you're pondering about taking a shot at something.... Stop pondering and just do it. It's time we all take the shot.

You're absolutely right. Shooting shots is worthwhile because the fear of missing shots alone makes you miss them

I was thinking of this meme (or is it just a regular picture?) when I was reading it and I think it's totally true.

could be the source, it was linking me to Fakebook but won't open that awful site to give them traffic, a "life's path" web search will get this result

There are so many things we can do in a day and choosing one constantly even if we aren't aware of it, is kind of a humbling moment sometimes. Looking back on the paths available and if we chose the one that was a little harder, seeing how that plays out is a good analysis to do. Going out of our comfort zone is definitely difficult and very tough and stressful sometimes but you certainly lose 100% of the chances that you don't take!

Great advice.

but don't get too stuck on working outside your comfort zone.

Remember that baby steps make miles.

I hear ya man! Being through a journey with these experiences I've learned. If you have conviction go gotta go big (otherwise why bother taking the shot) and that even though the ideas are good...if you try to run 5 projects/businesses at the same time it will be a hot mess that burns you out.

I limit myself to 3 things, the only way I will add another is if the opportunity is worth replacing one of the others.

One of those things should be to take as much money from Khal as possible.

Some good motivational dosage on a Friday Night! 🦁 Thank you so much. I got into crypto for financial independence. It's the best gift you can give to yourself.

Just keep at it mate. You are born to do great things. All the best for your NFT collection.

I want to create crypto content for the rest of my life.

Same. This is the dream! 🚀

I often turn it around when trying to talk to my boy. "If you try, you may fail, but you also may succeed; at the very least you will learn something, which is a success. But if you don't try, you automatically fail"

Great post!

Show up and good things happen. It is wonderful that people can come on here and just start creating content. This is something that really doesnt happen, at least from the reward standpoint.

How long does it take in traditional social media to get anywhere? Rewards are not easy to come by.

On here, even comments are upvoted at times.

Yeah, it's an amazing opportunity. Traditional social media is dead to me.

I post most of what I do on here over on Medium as they can still earn a penny or two over time past the 7 day mark. The contrast between what is earned on Hive and what is earned on Medium is stark. Needless to say, Hive is higher.

Wow. I feel like I should be doing this too. Is it worth the extra effort to click a few buttons?

I make a lot more on Hive than on Medium. Medium has decent SEO which kind of helps. If you don't already have an account over there, there is some new requirements before you can join the partner program like having 100 followers.

One possible upside for you is that you write a lot about crypto and blockchain and those often seem to get more activity for me.

In terms of missing 100% of the shots you don't take, just remember that some shots are worth more than others.

The first shot in a basketball game doesn't have the same overall value when compared taking a buzzer beater to win a championship.

In the crypto game, I'd compare that analogy to only having small investments in projects, compared to having a high conviction bet that if it hits, you CASH THE FUCK IN.

Don't take a ton of first shots of the game.

Position yourself for the buzzer beaters and nail the pressure shots that matter!
