Will Elon Musk's Twitter Takeover Succeed?

frens, about a week ago Elon Musk decided he wanted to buy Twitter. Like, the whole thing. Not just the 9.1% of shares he initially purchased.

Do you think they'll sell?

I wrote a post right after he tweeted out his offer, and even Justin Sun joined the party by offering a larger amount than him. I don't think Justin actually ever filed his offer, he was probably just doing some clout chasing as always. Elon offered to purchase Twitter for $43 billion, which is $54.20 per share in cash. Even after stating that he would be paying in cash, Twitter tried to initiate a block on him increasing his stake in the company.

Despite this, he proved that he has $46 billion in financing so the purchase would be no problem at all. Elon has been having private meetings and calls with shareholders trying to drive his deal home, which comes as no surprise. You might have thought he was just trolling, but he seems to be pretty serious about this deal. He did make it very clear that this is his best and final offer, so they have a choice to make.

If they don't accept his deal to purchase, he stated in the filing that he "would have to reconsider his position". Meaning he's going to dump the 9.1% of the company's shares he already owns and tank the stock price. At least, that's what I read. It was more of a threat than an offer.

After making his offer, some time has passed and he seems rather impatient. While he is trying to sway the opinions of large shareholders, he's also considering launching a tender offer. Basically, he would take the offer directly to shareholders in hopes to get a much larger stake. If he's gunna do that though, he has to get around the Twitter poison pill that prevents his stake from growing to more than 15%.

If anyone has enough money to find a way around something like that, it's this guy. Supposedly, we could see Twitter make a decision on the purchase this week. Possibly as early as today, but I doubt that. The market just opened and the week just started. Their earnings call isn't until Thursday, so I'd expect if they're going to make a decision it will be on Thursday.

Twitter stock has been trading well below the premium that Elon is offering, so it makes the decision a little easier. Do I think they'll take the deal? I do. I think it would be very unwise of them to decline the deal because it would completely wreck the stock price and lead to a lot of people leaving anyway.

What happens when Twitter becomes Elon's playground? Well, it's already his playground if you have ever seen what this man tweets. I think it would overall be a good thing for the platform. My hopes are that he wouldn't continue using it to pump useless meme coins like Dogecoin, but he'd probably make it the default currency for the platform. Dogecoin tipping would probably be one of the first features added.

If he really wants to be a voice for free speech (pun intended), he would need to really revamp the company. No more censorship. No more bots. Focus on building and adding web 3 features. Turn Twitter into the crypto space that it should be, not the crypto shit pool that it currently is. As some have stated, Twitter is a necessary evil unfortunately, and I think Elon running it would be a net positive.

Let's talk about it in the comments. Do you think the deal will go through? Do you think it would be a good or bad thing? Do you think Justin Sun is going to swoop in with an SEC filing for a better offer suddenly? What will happen?

I don't think it will make much of a difference coz it's a big company and he won't take a risk playing with it while paying billions of dollars for it.

Well, Elon did call Twitter the defacto village square for public discourse. He also acknowledges the power of Twitter in democracy and also advocates for free speech. It will be a good movie to watch if Elon buys Twitter.

I wasn't optimistic about it last week but I think it's possible now. I guess having the actual financing does make quite an impact and the earnings report is later this week. So I will wait it out but it might depend on whether or not they can find a good way to get themselves out of their position.
