Reddit Integrating Polygon for NFT Avatars! | One Step Closer to Web3

Reddit has had its fair share of dabbling in crypto and NFTs over the past couple years. Starting with its Community Points beta, which distributes crypto tokens to users based on the karma they earn in a specific subreddit. For example, I earn MOONS by karma farming on the CryptoCurrency subreddit. The next thing they added was verified NFT avatars which were sold on the Ethereum blockchain in very limited quantities and users may also be able to use their already-owns NFTs in the future.

I'm a huge fan of integrating tokens and NFTs into web2 social media... I think it definitely gets more people to check out the space. Speaking of Space, I said in a Twitter space the other day that LeoFinance is going to put web3 into the hands of millions, and potentially billions of users in the future. You know, had to do my unpaid shilling. I shared a link to the Space in discord if you wanna check it out.

I think a major stepping stone from the web2 world to web3 is web2 integrating features from web3. It's not going to be people waking up one day and just deciding they're gunna use LeoFinance instead of Reddit. It's possible, but what really want is that organic growth because it will be more natural. We don't want 100 million users jumping on LeoFinance at one time right now. We have roughly 600-700 monthly active users and things break.

This is not to say anything negative about the platform at all though, because as Khal said... We are building brand new, cutting edge technology and it's going to have growing pains. "If you want to reap the benefits of being an early adopter, then you must also reap the downsides."

There's going to be pushback from the people on web2. Just like when games like Counterstrike do a really shitty snake-oil job of integrating NFTs into the game. This is all part of the plan. People didn't just accept the internet right away. There were literally people that laughed at the idea of having devices connected across the world all the time.

There were literally people that laughed at the idea of a portable telephone. Take all of that into consideration and look where we are now. We have a computer in our pocket 99% of the time, and it's connected to the entire world all the time. Now we're moving toward a world where users can interact with blockchain technology and cryptocurrency from anywhere, at any time.

It just makes sense. Web2 is evolving slowly. Twitter has verified NFT profile pictures. Facebook is testing their own version of this. Tons of web2 platforms are chomping at the bit to get a taste of that sweet, sweet future money. They won't be the platforms that bring the next billion users to web3 though. It will be platforms like LeoFinance and Hive.

I do, however, think Reddit is one of the best places to start that integration of new technology. The reason for this is because it is literally the front page of the internet. People go there for news, memes, financial advice, porn, and anything else you can think of. Might as well give them NFTs and crypto as well.

It's the wild west, and eventually the web2 users are going to join us. It's only a matter of time.

Indeed everyone goes to reddit for a lot of things, is like the main page of the internet, this is great for the adoption of web3.0!

I like that comment about if you want to reap the rewards of being an early adopter you need to be ready for the downsides while things are being built.
