GeckoCon 2022

Frens, it's that time of year again! GeckoCon just kicked off, and if you're a hardcore nerd like myself... It's gunna be a great time! The lineup of speakers looks awesome and the event looks much more well-organized than it did last year. I have to say though, last year's event was a banger. I wrote a couple posts last year during the event, but I can't seem to find the one I wanted to link.

Edward Snowden and Gavin Wood had a crazy good talk at the end of the show. It was a great way to end the show, and we were in a completely different type of market at the time. I think we were still in bull market territory at this point, or at least not in a full on bear market. I won't be able to stay for the whole day, but I'll be popping in and out for different segments.

The opening keynote is called "The State of Web3", and there's a lot of talk about stable coins and the market conditions. You can tell just by the way people are so focused on building, that we are in a totally different state of the market. We're in a full on bear market, and could definitely trend further to the downside. With the state of the broad economy, inflation rate hit 9.1% yesterday and one of the biggest crypto companies, Celsius announced bankruptcy yesterday.

If you haven't already, hopefully you've been claiming your CoinGecko candies... They will score you a free ticket to the event, again! So come jump in.

Following some talk about Ethereum's upcoming merge and the developments surrounding it, UST came up. Man it's hard to think that I was literally there watching the collapse happen in real time. How surreal. I love how it "jumped off a cliff" and they really drove it home with that chart. We're learning a lot of expensive lessons in crypto.

I think it's gunna be a great time since there's so much less noise and nonsense going on in the space. It definitely feels more like a conference than a party this year, which is great because it's easier to focus on the knowledge being shared. Aside from a lineup of speakers from tons of different projects, they've built some other cool things that I'm super excited to check out. The first one is GeckoLand, which is a retro-style metaverse!

Another experience they built that's going to be a ton of fun is is the Gecko Race. If you haven't heard of REVV racing, it's a racing game that came out last year that features NFT cars. They gave away a ton of free Gecko themed cars last year, and it looks like thy are going to be a requirement to participate. Glad I didn't sell mine! There's a 180,000 REVV reward pool worth around $3000 up for grabs for the best racers.

Of course there's a workshop on minting NFTs, which has surprisingly remained a hot topic despite the decline. NFT sales on most platforms have tanked, but everyone is still talking about NFTs. I know I'm still incredibly supportive of the technology because they're a whole lot more than stupid monkey JPEGs. I wrote a whole educational series on NFTs not to long ago, and I encourage you to check it out in my master "Learn Crypto Stuff" index.

A Crypto Punk sold for 2,500 ETH just yesterday, which is the highest sale ever. There's clearly still interest in the PFP projects, but the real ones that are going to change the world are much more than just avatars for social media. It's build time, guys. Forget the prices. Focus on the technology. Focus on the future.

Have fun. I was never a fan of conferences. I tried, but I can't sit and listen to developers and economists all day sometimes for multiple days. LOL. Not my thing.

Fun is a strong word, sir! I just like hearing all the different perspectives on things. Mostly just background noise for me while I work. I might play the racing game, but I honestly hate racing games lol

Events like these are crucial. We need to keep spreading the idea of decentralization. This is something that is not going to happen overnight but it is a powerful step forward for humanity.

By the way, a number of words could have been linked using the Main Menu of @leoglossary.

Excellent. The more we get the better. I will keep adding to the main page to get the link count up.

I am going to rewrite the one for Hive so that it will be very link intensive.

How many times to we write that word on the blockchain each day?
