Netflix Games

A few days ago, I saw something on Twitter saying that Netflix had added a new game or games to its lineup. As I usually do with shit that doesn't really matter to me, I kept scrolling. This it hit me. I thought for a second "wait a minute, Netflix has games?"

Now, I'm not the biggest user of Netflix, as I said I recently canceled my subscription because the price continues to increase. It seems that with price increases, the value of the content available would too. This is not to say that there's nothing worth watching on the service, I just don't watch it enough to justify like $15/month. I'd rather put that same $15 into crypto. Hell, I remember when it was only $6/month and even $10/month was reasonable.

Anyway - Netflix has games now. I assumed this would be some kind of game streaming service similar to what we've seen with Stadia or XBOX GamePass. I was wrong. It's a collection of shitty mobile games.

Now that we know what to expect, you can imagine the caliber of games you'll get access to. These are absolutely free, included with your Netflix membership, but are exclusive to mobile devices. Currently it's a collection of 16 games and if you want to see the full list, it can be found on Netflix's website. Honestly a couple of them are probably really good games, I just don't game on my phone or tablet anymore.

I think the target audience with the addition of mobile games is pretty clear - children. I'm not saying only kids play mobile games, I'm just saying to me it looks like kids are the target audience. After the purchase of Night School Studio in September, they really leaned into it.

I'd imagine we can expect them to start producing their own Netflix Original games since they own a game company now. Just like with Netflix original movies and TV shows, some of them are really good. There's also some polished turds throw in there too so I expect you will get a similar experience if they do this. I just keep thinking how they are making money with this and the only thing I can think of is the increase in subscription price.

The only games that really interest me on the list are the Stranger Things series, Relic Hunters, and Into The Dead 2. I've never particularly enjoyed runner games or brick breaker style games. I guess to get this selection of games for free with your subscription is pretty cool, but I just don't see much value in it yet. When they start having more popular games or a game streaming service... Then I'll be more interested.

Maybe even the addition of support for Mac and Windows would make this more appealing. I game on my PC 99% of the time using an XBOX controller, so being able to play some free games on PC is always fun. The only mobile games I got super into were PUBG and Call of Duty Mobile. These days, I would much rather play on a larger screen, probably because I'm getting old lol.

What do you think of Netflix games?

Remember, before, there were very fashionable stereo systems, or three-in-one video systems? But, practice shows that if you want to achieve the best sound and image, then it is better to use specialized systems, I'm afraid that the versatility of directions can lead to chaos)
I think that the cinema should be where the cinema is, and the games, where the games are)

I agree, because when companies start to try and specialize in everything it gets kinda shitty
