Back to Splinterlands After 3 Years, Can't win One single Match in Modern

Hello everyone!
About three years ago, a friend gifted me a Summoner’s Spellbook and invited me to play Splinterlands. I tried a few battles back then, but honestly, I couldn’t really get into the game and ended up leaving it aside.
Recently, I took a closer look again… and now the game is starting to excite me more and more. The problem? I can’t beat almost anyone! 😅
I’m basically a new player, barely winning in Frontier, and my progress feels very, very slow.
So I’m here to ask for help. Any advice is more than welcome. If anyone is willing to delegate some cards, I’d be incredibly grateful. And of course, wish me luck — this is my very first post in the Splinterlands community, and I hope it’s the first of many (and hopefully with some wins too!).

I’d really love to hear your recommendations:
What kind of build should a beginner focus on?
Where is it better to invest at the start?
How much does it roughly take to start winning my first Modern battles and slowly build a deck?
Which deck would you recommend building first?
Is it better to buy cards or rent them in the beginning?
I’m open to all suggestions, thankful for any guidance, and I truly hope to grow into a consistent and profitable player over time.
Thanks a lot, and see you on the battlefield!
For a beginner I would just recommend to play Frontier at first. You learn the mechanics, meta and get some free cards. If you have fun by playing Frontier you can decide to invest some money to play Modern.
Take is slow. Skill takes time to built.

STOPYou shouldn't expect it to be easy or earn much but if you play consistently in Ranked and Frontier your collection of cards will slowly grow and improve.
As you get more cards you will have more choices for all the different matches and perform better.
At the same time you need to make the most out of what you've got, right now you're still making some mistakes that are easy to be fixed in your lineups.
One very popular strategy is to use the Frontier summoner that improves magic attacks.
I really don't know how effective it would be for you to rent cards, if I were you I'd just buy cards with magic attacks that you're still missing one copy of for the neutral and water splinters, start from the ones that only cost a few cents.
Torrent sniper. mindless thrall, abyssal elemental and shock trooper shouldn't cost too much and they will help you win more games. That way you'll earn more rewards and slowly build out your collection.
