Electricity : Daily usage is enjoyable
Hello everyone.
Welcome to my entry to Be frugal not Stingy community contest for this week.
The topic for this week is “Electricity” check out this post for more details https://ecency.com/hive-192111/@tergan/this-weeks-post-topic-for-the-frugal-community-electricity
Electricity is a necessity in life.
After creation God said let there be light, he knew we needed light.
Normally I don't feel okay staying in a place without light.
Yes, there are some places that are being disconnected from electricity supply.
How will I? Though normally I don't do much with light except my mobile phone.
I know we hardly have constant light here in Nigeria, but some places actually enjoy 24 hours light so I have heard.
And I have experienced it once when I travelled to a state that enjoys this.
Currently in the place I stay now, we normally enjoy light for at least 8 hours in a day sometimes more than.
We always have light at night and in the afternoon everyday.
Except whenever our transformer has issues or when it rains heavily.
Like I said before, currently I don't do much with light other than charging my phone, ironing my clothes which is rarely and using bulb to see.
Oooh I remember, I occasionally dry my hair with a hand dryer.
My standing fan is not functioning again and it's raining season, so I am not worried about heat for now.
Getting a new one is going to be when I start experiencing heat, which will be in months time.
So, currently this is an overview of my electricity consumption.
I live in a single room apartment, the house accommodates two other people.
Generally, the rooms connected to getting electricity is four.
We use prepaid meter which we subscribe to whenever it finishes.
Though the power holding company collects another general yearly pay.
Which they normally sum up to large amount of money, that they always sends to the main house owner.
Whenever they come every month to disconnect light because of their pay, we say nothing.
The house owner and the power holding company knows how they sort this out.
Because the house owner already taxed us 15,000 Naira for a year.
Once this is paid, anything that concerns power holding company doesn't concern us the tenants.
We will only have issues when other people in the same street has light and we don't.
The only reason why we don't complain on the pay is because we at least enjoy light everyday except when the two factors happens....
- Transformer malfunction
- Heavy rain.
The house owner doesn't complain or tries to increase the bill because we don't use much from the electricity supply.
Besides agreement is agreement.
Getting electricity from the country company's power supply is much more better than operating or depending on individual supply through generator.
Though solar system supply is good too but i truly prefer national power supply.
Especially when you are sure to get it daily.
Thank you very much for checking out my entry.
Please do well to join the contest.
Probably, everything that you said is very close to everyone when he uses electrical appliances :)

The amount the landlord charges seems a fair amount...speaking based on my own experience.
Transformer malfunctions are now swiftly fixed in my location. A day or two max. Do t even know what changed. It's a good development tho.
Well, not bad.
The last transformer malfunction took a month plus before they finished the repair, seems it was serious.
Other minor ones doesn't take time.
Electricity is very paramount, using electricity for your phone is not a just something..
It is like a part of income for you too, don't you use your phone for business? In fact the charging of phone is the most important thing for me.
15 thousand is big.. that means in my place electricity is very cheap then. I don't also like solar and generator like you except if it becomes mandatory
I'm not sure why the hate for solar.
Solar is a great backup. I have one small solar panel which outputs to USB. It is designed for camping and put it in the sun and it acts like a USB charger. I got it on sale for a little less than 6000 Naira ($10 Canadian).
As a backup I think that is pretty cheap for a portable sun phone charger.
Then again I really like solar power but that's just me :)
I don't hate solar.
But judging from the ones they make here, is not always reliable.
And it drains battery quick.
Solar is good, Its one of the remedies here for many people, that's what my neighbors use in the absence of government electricity.. I wanted getting one last year but someone discouraged me by saying it spoils phone's battery
They are only partially right.
When I was new to solar I bought a solar panel with a direct USB output. However, it is an unregulated USB power and the power fluctuates. My phone wasn't good at accepting a variable power input and it charged very very poorly.
I've since learned that I should charge up a power bank instead. My power bank is much better at accepting the solar input to charge its batteries. I charge up the power bank during the day and at the end of the day use the power bank's quick charge feature to charge up my phone in under 30 minutes.
Option #2 is to use a charge controller which is also great. However, that adds to the cost of the system.
If you are ever looking at a solar system take pictures of the items and I'll give feedback as I'm able.
Just for fun I also bought a hand crank generator which I can use to charge up my phone and at one point I made a bicycle generator (see my last post in Hive Learners) ... those are also great because sun or no sun you can always have power when you want it.
That's a very nice idea, thanks for your feed back sir.. I will definitely go and check for that post in hive learners, guess it should be creative Sunday work right?
Not exactly in Creative Sunday. I made it a long time ago but if you are curious here is the link:

for the bicycle generator post.
Thank you sir... 🥰🥰🥰🥰
It's a just something to the watts I use compared to someone that uses refrigerator, oven, hotplate etc.
I am not complaining on the pay, because I see light daily and my phone battery doesn't last.
Don't worry you will soon get your won refrigerator and the rest.. your money won't be going for just charging your phone
If all you are using power for is a cellphone and light even a tiny solar system will cover you for the next 25 years. Then again, even a good power bank can cover you for such limited usage.
I'm so used to 24/7 power usage and all the gadgets that use electricity that such a low power footprint seems foreign to me. On the other hand, sometimes I think being able to use that little is awesome.
Good job and thanks for posting!
Yes, true.
But what if, I for one day need the light for other things?
And during the raining season I won't get to enjoy the solar.
Well those are lots of options to consider.
electricity is what make up a house and if proper wire is not fix it can also burn the house down I pray that we shall not experience such in the aspect of electricity it has his own way of work the transformer gives light after that the house we live also connect with light then in the house we live it has his own connection too so when you look at it is step by step when the light is set in the house we live we still buy extension wire to be able to fix our television charger and other accessories when they are well fix they give out current to be useful onlike me I don't sleep with light bulb open at night I always off it through the control switch and with light you will find out that you are comfortable and have peace of but if you see your neighbors having light and you don't have light one will feel like they have rejected him in the world and with what am seeing light has become out addiction that we can not do without light some there source of cooking is light the day there is not light they will not cook that day so with look of things electricity is good but sometimes dangerous also
Vivid points.

Do you understand?
yes thank you let me try it please
I heard someone say that the best time to buy a fan is in the raining season because by now the price usually falls because of short demand compared to when the heat comes and everyone rushes to go get one.
I can see that you don't really use much for power supply.
Thanks for the entry.
That's a nice tip.
I am going to get a fan, thank you very much dear.

Yes. I totally agree with you on this. I'd rather pay the huge sums to the PHCN than spend that same amount or less on fuel. The stress and noise doesn't just sit okay with me.
That's true dear especially the noise.
PHCN is the best.
