Previously I explained that my profile picture is Holy Mary as depicted by Jan van Eyck in the "Ghent altarpiece".
One remarkable thing about this painting is that it's perhaps the most stolen/moved/sold in history. In the pictures you can see how the panels were recovered from an Austrian salt mine, where they were stored after being stolen by the nazis.
When the end was near, Hitler ordered the destruction of the 1000's of looted artworks but an act of internal sabotage prevented the bombing of the salt mine. In 1945 the panels returned to Belgium. #art #SoMeeOriginals
