However, there are ways to reduce the negative impacts of cryptocurrency on the environment.

Electricity is one of the biggest issues with cryptocurrency because miners need huge amounts of it. Every time a new coin is created, lots of energy is consumed. This consumes more fossil fuels and releases more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Unless something drastic changes, this process will only increase as more people use cryptocurrency. The total energy used was equal to the energy consumed by 3 million households for one month. Even though many consider this currency dead, countries still mint coins based on similar principles. They use less electricity to create less coins and make their products more efficient. Until then, cryptocurrency may not be environmentally friendly by default.
