SURRENDER

In the days of yore
Afore light shined in the world of men,
When men’s passions were free from diverse yokes,
Everyone was jolly and not as mean;
On the shores of Africa, where
Dark light was adored by all
And innocence scattered as wheat.

Until the hammer sought the anvil,
The piano set against the drum,
And the flute the trumpet stared with envy.
In a bout of fierce contest,
All was sure to win,
None willing to lose
Yet, one must win and make the other whine.

Wielded by forces with greater strength,
The hammer soon crushed the anvil,
The piano quenched the drum’s breathe,
And a frog the trumpet made of the flute.
Innocence came running to surround,
But was flung and left to flutter.
Willing or not, the victims gave up the fight and surrendered.
