The khazarian hoax was pushed by Elhaik and Koestler not because they wanted to escape from "the responsibility of being" jews, but to shift blame for jewish crimes onto people who do not exist in the modern day. It has nothing to do with convincing themselves or convincing other jews of anything. DNA evidence places these people that were dispersed worldwide in the Levant Corridor as a starting point.
