NO TO EQUAL PAY

In response to the theme for this week 83 Edition 1 which is equal pay I say no to it. Pay should not be done equally instead certain factors ought to be considered before any judgement is passed. Many are yearning that everything should carry equality which gave rise to movements like female equality or gender equality etc and other organisations protesting and agitating for virtually equality in everything.

A lot of factors should be considered before any payment or salary is done. Let's consider the following factors;

  • Pay supposed to be based on the kind of work done. Work done or rate can't be the same. Some work requires proper reasoning, consultation while others a reasonable amount of energy must be deposited. Between these two things I listed above, there's no way that the mode of pay should be the same because their delivery won't be the same. Even in hard work where excess energy is needed, there's still variance on the specific kind of work.
    For instance working in a building construction site where varied workers are employed their kind of service provision will determine their pay. You can not start paying the mason and labourers same amount.

  • Some work requires intellectual aides and sound education. Imagine a computer guru with masters degree will receive equal pay with an attendant or a messenger??? Kai... That would be a great error for me. The input and output of their services differs therefore their pay shouldn't be the same. In my dear country Nigeria people are not pay based on educational background instead the level of influence from the political sphere. How can an ordinary counselor of a ward that has only a secondary certificate collect a huge pay more than a degree holder? Why ? Simply because he contested an election and won? I don't like this.

  • Pay should be base on one's productivity and efficiency. In as much as education is good however there are some individuals that are educational sound but aren't efficient at work disposition. When these categories are found, they should be placed on a different cadre with a different pay. There's a man I know that was an assistant to a medical doctor. He served in the clinic for decades such that he can even successfully carry out some surgical operations. If I had power within my corridor, I will give such personality a special remuneration to a so-called certified but incompetent personnel.

This is what I would do if I have power to change things.

  • Your pay will be base on your level of competency not just having certificate. I will consider "sabificate". What can you offer? What new thing are you bringing on the table? These are some of the question I would consider before I place you where you belong for your pay. I hate laziness and hypocrisy therefore all those that claim to have one educational level to the other would have to proof themselves practically hence pay can't be the same.
  • I will introduce some allowances aside the basic pay in order to cushion some effects. This would go along way to comb up other people that are sluggish and play truancy to be more dedicated.
  • I will pay base on merit and not on influence. If you aren't qualified you wouldn't be considered. I will set up panel for supervision and constant checks which also will determine the pay.
  • I will set up a probation programme which will help in selection process for employment and payment placement. When you scale through the process then you have better chances for better pay.

You would make a very good leader honestly, if payment has been taking place based on what you have said above, I am sure things would taken shape because no one will joke with his/her job

It seems to me like you'd be quite stern and strict with your rules as a boss, yet fair and just. That's alright and perhaps necessary. I like the fact that you consider equity over equality. Thanks for sharing with us.

You are right, there are lots of factors to be considered before making the decision for equal pay. Without mincing words many workers deserve higher pay than the others base on so many things and you have done justice to those points
