A Negative Sketch: 'The Crosshatched Dog'

When I shared the portrait of the young lad earlier, I stated there that I was working on a cross hatching drawing of a dog. It took forever as I had to make many layers in order to achieve the cumbered effect I was looking for.
I have to confess, at some point I was tempted to increase the intensity of the pen but then I held through and it eventually paid off.

It was just around this time mid last week that I came across this beautiful figure on pinterest and though the highlights spelt itself, I felt strongly that it would have a different effect with the hatching technique.
I hope I am able to build this technique to a point where it becomes a signature. So, feel free and join me on this journey....
