If someone hypnotizes you, they put you into a state in which you seem to be asleep but can still see, hear, or respond to things said to you. A hypnotherapist will hypnotize you and will stop you from smoking. Synonyms: mesmerize, put in a trance, put to sleep More Synonyms of hypnotize.Link

I think the main idea behind hypnotizing someone or something is to have direct access to the person or the thing. Usually to control the person or have an influence over that person.

I have this orientation that hypnotism is a fairytale, well because I have not seen it work in real life. The motive too is unbecoming. I mean, how will you want to control your fellow human being that has freedom to choice just like you, that's selfish.

Most people believe that hypnotism is used for the greater good, that is to make the bad person become good.

The prompt for today is all about hypnotizing the worm. I will say this is a figurative expression, because I don't see why and how you can hypnotize a worm. But this is my stance on hypnotism.
